    MBP 16" A2141 - Cannot install OS

    Hi everyone.

    I received a MBP 16" (board 820-01700) that can't install the OS.
    The customer says that it started getting slower and received an error in the notification center: Volume Hash Mismatch. He tried to erase the disk and reinstall the OS via internet recovery. Unfortunately he did not disable the startup protection prior to deleting the drive (needs an admin account on the disk to do so) so I cannot boot from external sources. The error occurs when the installation is almost complete and it says: An error occured loading the update. The board is in pristine condition, I checked it multiple times. I've never seen this issue before... I tried:

    - installing Monterey via CMD+ALT+R, installing Catalina via Shift+CMD+ALT+R;
    - disconnecting all the unnecesary parts from the motherboard before attempting another install (including display);
    - restored the T2 chip via Apple Configurator;
    - I put the computer into Target Disk Mode and copied on the SSD a fresh install of Monterey that boots on another computers -> forbidden sign;

    What I did not try because I don't have the part on hand: trying with a KGB topcase or KGB Touch Bar. On other Macs from the same generation, if the touchbar is not working, you will get a "required update" so I'm torn about this. The only solution that comes to mind is just replacing the logic board because I don't know where to start repairing this one but that's expensive and harder to source.

    I hope someone else encountered this issue and found a fix. Thanks for reading my post.

      Re: MBP 16" A2141 - Cannot install OS

      I have this exact same issue with the same board at the moment.

      I know this sounds crazy, but the fix is to change the DNS server in the DHCP scope that the machine is getting its DHCP lease from. The DNS server I used is 1.1.1.1

      When you change the DNS, the installation will continue as normal. At least it did for me, but there is definately something about this error that points to a timing issue with the networki/wifi side of things.

      Let me know if this helps you out, as it would be good to know if this is in fact the cause of this sort of weirdness.

        A2141 (2019 16" MB Pro) Strange macOS install issues. NAND? WIFI? FIRMWARE?
        by duwane
        Hi All.

        Sorry ahead of time for the text wall. This is a strange problem and I have tried to explain it as best I can. I realise this is a hardware forum (mostly), but I am still not sure if this is even a hardware fault! I am hoping that someone more knowledgeable than me in the area of understanding installation logs, or someone that has had a similar issue in the past may have some ideas of what might be causing this.

        The issue:
        Unable to do a clean install of any macOS versions supported for this model, even after fully erasing and formatting the internal SSD,...

        ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING - M.2_2 port not working correctly with SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD
        by DynaxSC
        Hi,

        I have an really very weired issue with ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING.

        Some NVME (PCIe) SSD's are not working correctly in the second M.2 socket. An example of it is the SAMSUNG SSD980 1TB NVME SSD.
        Some other NVME (I have only smaller ones) disk do work without any problem, also SAMSUNG disks, eg an MZVPV128HDGM-0000.

        The behaviour is also really very strange, i.e.:
        • The disk shows always up in BIOS - so it is recognized, so far so good
        • POST-ing with this disk with fresh Windows 24H2 installation (done in the M.2_1 socket) in the M.2_2 socket

        A1706 fails to install OS to any disk

        Lectori salutem!

        The patient is an A1706 model - 2017 mb pro 13” core i7 16GB 512GB 4-thunderbolt ports

        Symptoms:
        • Boots in recovery mode (Sierra)
        • Internal SSD is visible and can be erased / partitioned
        • Sierra install starts with 6 minutes estimate, but at the end of the countdown fails with β€œAn error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.”
        • The same happens when I connect an external SSD or a USB-C thumbdrive and try to reinstall Sierra on that drive.
        • Does not boot from external (Sonoma) bootable thumbdrive
        • I have

        DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG error re. old drivers in Windows 11 install image
        by japlytic
        In a Beelink GTR mini PC, mine has an Intel AX200NGW WLAN module.

        Tried (only with keyboard/mouse connected):
        • BIOS + database update
        • Using latest Windows 11 image built with official image creation tool
        • Previous setup version for Windows 11 installer
        • Replacing SSD without a slow block (the previous SSD had a slow block with access time > 500 mS)
        • TPM reset (worked to the point where DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG error message is displayed briefly after the point of stalling)
        • Disabling power to WLAN and LAN modules in BIOS (Advanced > AMD PBS > PCI Express Configuration)

        PS5 Disk Tray issues.
        by welp
        I have a PlayStation 5 CH-1215A with a Disk drive not reading disks anymore. (accepting and ejecting very slowly.)
        Knowing the PS5 has a married daughter board for the disk drive I made sure to use that and replace the rest of the disk tray as it* was owned previously by an indoor smoker.
        Once the job was complete and put back everything together, I tried to insert a disk with no luck at all...
        So, I checked voltage going from the ps5 to the daughter board and am only getting the 5V rail.
        With that knowledge I preceded to check all the fuses for the 12v rail on the main...
