Re: [help] a2141 motherboard 820-01700 completely dead

        Thanks for the update.

Your video is showing power cycling from the current draw.

Are you using the original power adapter ? Or at least a power adapter that can supply the required current ?

        Review the voltage @ F7000 (PPBUS_G3H).

Meter in DC volts scale (20v is ok).

What is the voltage to ground ? Is it stable or is it pulsing ?

Re: [help] a2141 motherboard 820-01700 completely dead

at this moment i'm using a under rated power supply (65w) just to test, and not the original one. but i can have it without problem!
on f7000 voltage is not stable...

sometimes it is 9v some times 12v

Re: [help] a2141 motherboard 820-01700 completely dead

            Remove F7000 & F7001. Power up and check if the PPBUS_G3H is stable @ pin # 1 of F7000 / F7001.

What is the voltage of PPBUS_G3H ?

Is the PPBUS_G3H rail stable without the fuse (and downstream load) ?

This is to confirm if the fault is on the producer side (U7000) or consumer side (downstream from F7000 / F7001, pin # 2).

If the PPBUS_G3H (producer side) is stable, then remove all power.

Meter in resistance mode -> check the resistance to ground of PPBUS_G3H, F7000, pin # 2 (downstream side).

            Resistance of downstream side ?

if i remove the battery, PPBUS_G3H is stable at 12,6v

Interesting. Q7065 (battery mosfet) is a suspect.

Remove all power & no battery. Meter in resistance mode (start with lowest scale).

Check the resistance across the mosfet Q7065 as follows:

                source (1-2-3) & drain (5-6-7-8)
                source (1-2-3) & gate (4)
                gate (4) & drain (5-6-7-8)

Post the resistance readings & meter scale used for the measurements.

If you see '1' on your multimeter, switch to the next high scale.

You are checking for a low resistance which often means the mosfet is defective and should be replaced.

Update - found this on the internet...

                  removing f7000 and f70001 i have stable PPVBAT_G3H_CHGR_REG stable (pin 1 of f7000 / f7001)

with my multimeter (fluke 17b+) auto scale mode, black probe on ground and red on pin 2 of f7000 i have 16,6 mohm

So you think that the battery Could be the provlem?

If it is right to check battery voltage Here, so the battery is Dead: i have 0,009v…

See my last post - your power adapter is under rated. Also you need a working battery to power this beast.

Confirm the condition of the battery mosfet with the resistance checks. Post the readings.

T480s random shutoff and then completely dead
                            by wangbreeze
                            Hello Gurus,

I got a ThinkPad T480s. It was running fine but suddenly started random shut down. When it turned off, I had to push the reset pin to bring it back to life. But it got aggressively worse and became completely dead. No charging light, no life.

I did some initial diagnostics with just the board (no battery, nothing attached, and no CMOS battery as well)

Initial testing of the coil resistance seems to indicate no dead short. The only low resistance I measured was at PL701. It reads 38 ohms.
                            charger gave - 20V - ok

My venerable and old laptop (Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 equipped with an i7-4700MQ, circa 2014) and previously a powerful machine during its heyday is no more. Have been using it for many years, but about 3 months ago it went kaputt for no apparent reason (left it on overnight [normally it goes to standby mode after some idle time], and in the morning it was cold dead with no boot, no post, no leds; nothing at all).

Since the 1990s I have been building custom desktop computers, etc; but it has been few years since my last built one and for the last 15 years I have built very few...

                            Completely dead MSI z490 tomahawk
                            by pavski
Trying to troubleshoot MSI z490 tomahawk board and would appreciate your help. The board is completely dead and shows no activity when the power button is pressed.

I have tried to look at the Superio, the PSIN signal seems to be correct (goes from 3.3V to 0 on button press) but the voltage on PSOUT pin is quite low. I

t is only 0.8V which seems to be incorrect but goes to 0 when the button is pressed.

Can you please let me know if this is indeed incorrect and what else should I look at next?

                            Thanks!

                            Dell Latitude E6540 - 2nd dead motherboard
                            by DrvLikHell
Greetings and sanitations! Several years ago I received some really awesome help on this forum for fixing my monitor (which is still working) so I figure maybe someone can help with this laptop issue.

I have a Dell E6540, motherboard 9411P, DP/N:VWNW8. A year ago it died a strange death where at first it wouldn't turn on all the time, but would turn on when it felt like it, then it got worse where it wouldn't turn on at all and I would just get a flashing light. So I replaced the motherboard with a matching part number board. (I still have the old motherboard) Now a year later this...

MacBook Pro 16" (2019) A2141: power consumption? Dead GPU? MacOS not installing
                            by tomtom67
A friend brought his fresh-from-ebay macbook pro A2141 after he failed replacement keyboard plugging.
I fixed all the little problems he introduced.

I am unable to install macOS to this device. Both Sequoia and Catalina (from Internet Recovery) start to install, but after ~2-5 minutes into the installation the macbook does a hard restart (max fan spin for a split second, then reboot without chime).

I noticed what I think is a very high power consumption, like 20V/1.7A when activating WiFi for internet recovery, and more like 20V/3.7-4.1A while downloading the recovery...
