    A1502 not recognising internal SSD

Bought a Macbook Pro A1502 off eBay as 'parts only'. It was a 2014 model with a 820-3476-A board. All worked except the SSD wasn't being detected. Thought I'd post this as I haven't seen this fault really addressed anywhere else.

Checking the SSD connector, all rails and enable were present. I did find however that SSD_RESET_CONN_L was stuck low, so the SSD never got out of reset. This is fed by U3740, but SSD_RESET_L was stuck low at around 0.2V, sometimes getting as high as 1V. Looked like the PCH was at fault, so I tried a donor BIOS, but no luck there. This data line was definitely damaged in the PCH, so I tried altering the pullup to a lower value. But only thing that worked was pulling up pin 3 of U3740 to PP3V3_S0SW_SSD. My thought was since this is switched, it's not a hard pullup, so this reset line will still be low initially, but will turn off when this switched supply comes on. (Note: Reset is active low). I haven't found a datasheet for the SLG4AP016V IC, but the schematic seems to indicate that it holds the SSD in reset internally after a delay. The SSD_RESET_L is a master reset.

I then noted that pin 4 was only around 1.6V, even without a SSD fitted. Swapping out U3740 fixed that. So my assumption here is this chip was damaged (from ESD maybe during SSD insertion), and potentially damaged that line in the PCH as well. There original SSD had been removed so no idea if that was faulty.

Anyway, this hack appears to work and the SSD is now detected ok. Booted and reinstalled MAC OS just fine. As the other MAC's like Air etc use an identical design, this kind of fault isn't just restricted to this board.

Thanks @reformatt! Very informative review. Time to add this part to my toolkit.

Not overly happy tying a rail directly to a logic line, so I put in a 100 ohm resistor instead. Seems to work ok. Here's a photo of the hack. Note I also had to replace U3740.

No liquid damage noted on this board at all.

          Lol looks like I have similar issues... A1466 - I have 1 v on pin 4.

I guess the fault is coming from battery has charge and someone remove / install ssd slap the ic

Sony OLED XR-77A80J - 5 Flashes But Turn On After Hard Reset
            by odie34
I am a hobbyist (not a professional) so please be gentle...

I recently received an XR-77A80J that wouldn't turn on. (Repeating 5 flashes when plugged in.)

I did a hard reset by holding the power button for about 30 seconds until the set powered down. I then tried to turn it on and it powered up, bringing me to the setup screen. There's not a lot of detail on the setup screen but the picture didn't have any distortions, so at least a cursory examination suggests no physical damage to the screen. The set appeared to be working normally, but it shut down after about 15 seconds,...

Philips MDP 3380/12 Blu-ray Player – No Power, Reset Signal Always High
            by ictc
I'm troubleshooting a Philips MDP 3380/12 Blu-ray player that shows no signs of life. The display remains off, and no buttons respond.

Inside, the power supply is working correctly, and all expected voltages on the mainboard match the service manual specifications. The CPU warms up slightly (checked with a thermal camera), the crystal oscillator is functioning, but the reset signal remains high at all times.

The reset circuit appears to consist of two NPN transistors, one driven by 5V VCC and the other by 3.3V STBY, as shown in the attached schematic. Should the reset...

ASUS M5A78L-M LX - PWR button works sometimes, CPU stuck in reset
            by kotel studios
            Hi,
Firstly I'd like to apologize if this was posted in the wrong forum (I'm new here )
Recently I got an ASUS M5A78L-M LX board in a scrap lot. Saw one broken cap which I've replaced. No broken traces and missing components. While soldering a new cap a bit of solder got onto components bellow SB (opposite of the two lythic caps). Didn't see it and powered the board on.
I was greeted with it not starting. Came back to it a day later and shorted the PS_ON with GND to force it on. It sprung to life but with CPU stuck in reset (it was an FX 4600 I believe). Thats when I saw the...

Asrock H87-Pro4 Rev. G/A 1.04: Power cycling on reset only
            by MyBrainIsAStrainer
            Hi!

I have a weird one for you. I have a H87-Pro4 from Asrock that power cycles. But only when you do a restart after it was already running!

            Symptoms in detail:
            1. I switch off the ATX PSU for ~15-20 seconds, then switch it back on again.
            2. I press power button. The board boots without issues.
            3. I can shut down the board any way I want (via OS* menu, or pushing the power button - either in the OS or the boot manager).
            4. Push power button again, board boots fine.
            5. This shutdown/powerup can be repeated multiple times without problems.
            6. BUT: If I do a restart instead

JVC LT-43C888 (manufactured by Vestel) does not start after trying factory reset, details below
            by masterm
TV: JVC LT-43C888 (purchased in 2018). This is a smart TV with Netflix, Youtube, Freeview and other applications via 'Viewd' app store

            Problem with TV:
            - Netflix stopped working so i tried to do factory reset from the TV menu.
            - I confirmed on-screen but the factory reset did not happen even. It did not take me to 'first-time installation' screen as mentioned in the manual.
            - After waiting for some time, the TV went into a boot loop.
            - JVC logo comes on the screen and LED light flashes for some seconds, then it reboots again and the same thing happens
