Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
Post the resistance to ground readings for the attached D6950 device.
Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode (2k scale).
Red meter probe on point to test; Black to ground (shield is ok).
Also, with all power removed, meter in DIODE mode.
Check & post the measurements for each CC1/CC2 line. Red meter probe to GROUND; Black meter probe to point to test in DIODE mode.Last edited by mon2; 01-29-2022, 12:33 PM.Comment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
Can you check your measurements again ?
Remove all power. Meter in 2k scale.
Red meter probe to pin to test; Black meter probe to GROUND.D6950 in resistance mode: Pin1: 3,3Mohm / Pin2: 878Kohm / Pin3: 2,6Mohm
D6950 in diode mode: Pin1: 0,440V / Pin2: 0,555V / Pin3: 0,552V
If done properly, Pin # 3 should have been 0 ohms.
Then place meter in DIODE mode.
RED METER probe to GROUND (yes Ground); Black meter probe to pin to test.
If done properly, pin # 3 should be 0V.Comment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
Sorry mon2! My fault! i measured D6905...
This are the measuresment:
D6950 in resistance mode: Pin1: 102Kohm / Pin2: 120Kohm / Pin3: 0,3ohm
D6950 in diode mode: Pin1: 0,430V / Pin2: 0,430V / Pin3: 0,009VComment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
Ok. So D6905 is not at fault.
You mentioned that PPBUS_G3H is not working - is this still correct ?
If yes, remove F7000 fuse (for now). Test again.
Do you see PPBUS_G3H working from the ISL side of the design ?
Respectively, remove all power - meter in 2k scale mode - check the resistance to ground on both, pad #1 on F7000 and then again for pad #2 on F7000.
The ISL is a buck / boost regulator and it should be working before we can move forward. The 20V is a separate issue.Last edited by mon2; 01-29-2022, 01:52 PM.Comment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
Yes, PPBUS_G3H is not working. I removed the fuse and still nothing. Resistance to ground in Pin1: 2,5 Mohm and in Pin2: 940KohmComment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
Post the voltage (with adapter) for:
TBA_AUX_DET
TBA_CSIR_P
TBA_CSIR_N
These are tiny parts so proceed with care.
C7025 (can be any point on the capacitor cluster)
Are these voltages stable or also pulsing ?
Next, remove all power -> meter in resistance mode again (2k scale).
Post the resistance to ground for C7025 capacitor cluster.Comment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
TBA_AUX_DET: 1,3V pulsing
TBA_CSIR_P: 5,2V pulsing
TBA_CSIR_N: 5,2V pulsing
C7025: 5,2V pulsing / 3MohmComment

Voltage reading for SMC_RESET_L?
Remove the battery. Using only the power adapter, post the voltages of the power rails for each CD3215.

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
When i reconnect the battery in pin 1 of the of F7000 i have 10,1V (i don´t have the fuse solder in place), thats the voltage of the battery, am i right? so ppbus_g3h is created.Last edited by Aitorflores7; 01-30-2022, 08:27 AM.Comment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
See attached.
When you connect the battery - the battery mosfet @ Q7065 is enabled and allows for the flowing of measured voltage onto pad # 1 of F7000.
When you mate the battery - post the voltage on pin # 4 of Q7065 mosfet.
It does seem to indicate that the ISL is supplying the charge voltage to ENABLE this mosfet (unless the mosfet is shorted and is just allowing this to pass through).
After this test, remove all power / no battery.
Meter in resistance mode (2k scale) -> measure & post:
resistance between
source & drain
source (1-2-3) & gate (4)
gate(4) & drain (5-6-7-8)
for Q7065.
Post the voltage @ PP3V3_G3H.
Still interested to hear about your testing after D6950 is removed.Comment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
i removed D6950. Still no PPBUS_G3H.
I reconnect the battery and in Pin 4 of Q7065 mosfet i have 9,6V.
Resistance measuresment:
source & drain: Open Line
source (1-2-3) & gate (4): 10,53Mohm
gate(4) & drain (5-6-7-8): 6,12Mohm
PP3V3_G3H voltage with only battery connected is 0V. With only the adapter is 3,4VComment

Re: A1708 820-00840-A 5V 80-100mA
Yes, the fuse F700 is removed.
Yes, with adapter only all rails are pulsing. When the amp meter cycle, the rails go down and the back up again. With the battery no PP3V3_G3H.Comment

by obelix24Hi All I've one MacBook A1708 that is taking 20v 0.05a
I've checked and there is short to ground on PPBUS_G3H but I'm not able to locate it.
I've injected voltage on F7000 (1V 3A) but it was taking only 0,2a.
I've checked also C6465 but it's ok (I've take it from board and test with multimeter) - also when it was removed short was still there.
Can you please help me what is causing the short ? - Loading...
