    820-00164 green/orange light but no fan spin

    Hi all,

    i have a 820-00164 macbook air that cannnot turn on..only have green/orange light but no fan spin. No sign of water damage.

    here are my measurement:

    PPBUS_G3H = 8.55V
    PP5V_S5 = 5V
    PP3V3_S5 = 3.33V
    PP3V42_G3H = 3.418V
    PP5V_S4RS3 = 0V -- checked no short to ground
    PM_SLP_S4_L = 0V -- checked no short to ground
    PP3V3_SUS = 3.3V
    PPBUS_S5_HS_COMPUTING_ISNS = 8.55V

    really confuse what to do now..

    can somebody help me to solve this?
    thanks in advance

    What is the history of the unit? Just stopped working?

    Meter in resistance mode (200 ohms). Remove all power and battery.

    Check the resistance to ground on each coil on the logic board.

    Some coils will be low in reading as they are low voltage rails but check them all. This is to locate possible shorted power rails.

        the customer said it just can not turn on in the morning.
        here are the measurements:

        L7701 = 35K OHM
        L3095 = 30K OHM
        L7520 = 30K OHM
        L7560 = 3.6K OHM
        L7130 = 20K OHM
        L7630 = 225 OHM
        L7430 = 375 OHM
        L7310 = 11 OHM
        L7320 = 11 OHM
        L2920 = 0.76K OHM

          as per @piernov checklist,

          1) is the power adapter an original Apple product ? if available, can you check with another adapter ? also suggest to disconnect the battery and test again.

          2) the coil values do not appear to show a short condition on the rails

          3) do you have an oscilloscope to monitor the PM_SLP_S4_L line ? If yes, check if this line is pulsing during power up or static @ 0 volts.

            hello @mon2
            1. yes the power adapter is original and tested with battery unplugged. later i will try to test with another adapter.

            2. i think the coil values is ok right.

            3. i dont have oscilloscope.

            any other suggestion?

              PM_SLP_S4_L is a signal used across the logic board. Confirm that the PM_SLP_S4_L signal is the same level on other points on the board. This will then rule out that you have a break on the trace due to possible liquid corrosion.

              You can also consider to do a continuity test from another location with the PM_SLP_S4_L to another point with the same label.

                hello, sorry for the late reply..
                i have tested with 85W magsafe and the fan spin..assembled and all working fine..
                the question is what happened with my 60W magsafe? the 60W magsafe it plug to another macbook and working fine...

                  Using a non-genuine Magsafe as well as using a Magsafe1 instead of a Magsafe2 can cause the same issue with some boards (most notably 820-00164, 820-00165 and 820-4924 but others can be affected too). In both of these situations, BATLOW# (PM_BATLOW_L) will stay low.
