I'm trying to determine if the charging circuit is functioning properly before purchasing a new battery. I pulled the battery pack apart and replaced one of the 3 cells. The voltage across all 3 cells is around 10.8V after I used the DCPS to charge it a little.
The laptop boots fine with the adapter, the charging light goes from orange to white after about 15 sec when the battery is connected, it stays white when the battery is not connected. I get 3.71V on the battery connector (Laptop side) when there is no battery and less then 3V when the battery is connected. I don't get any voltage reading at the connector of the battery but I do get about 10.8V at the battery's terminals.
After charging the battery with the DCPS I get 7% plugged in not charging. If I unplug the ac adapter the laptop cuts off even though it's reading 7% battery. These are the voltages on the charger IC (BQ24A) (Thanks to piernov's excellent guide):
DCIN/ VCC = pin 20, 19.31V
ACIN/ ACDET = pin 6, 2.66V
REGN/ VDD = pin 16, 6.03V
CMSCR = pin 3, 19.58V
ACDRV = pin 4, 25.4V
ACOK = pin 5, 3.26V.
Is ACDET too low?
