Hello, everyone! I have come to ask you to enlighten me about a problem with my HP 14-df0016ds notebook ... In an update of windows 10 in 2020 (June) the notebook was left with a black screen ... (the charging led turns on and power button but it does not start absolutely windows, nor does it let me enter the BIOS) ... I downloaded from the hp page, an update that they just did in April of this year ... so I proceeded to make a usb with the flash of the new update of the bios, to see if I could revive it ... (it gets more interesting) I press the combination of keys (windows + B) and the screen works with the image of "downloading new bios" (they appear loading files with a blue bar) ... once it is finished, a countdown appears warning that the notebook is going to restart in 10 seconds to continue the process ... and when it restarts ... the screen returns to black and nothing happens ... THE BIG QUESTION IS ... WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND ME TO DO? I AM A LITTLE DESPERATE WITH THIS QUESTION .... I thank you very much for the space ... and if you notice that my English is horrible, it is because I am using the google translator XD

Try pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del on the keyboard and see if anything happens .Hold Ctrl down, then press Alt down keeping Ctrl and Alt held down, then press Del (or Delete) once ,and let go of all keys .
You can try pressing once on the windows key as well .

Re: Problems with my HP 14-df0016ds Notebook (black screen)
Sounds like you just need to apply the proper BIOS for your unit.
Can you confirm that you have downloaded the proper BIOS firmware for this computer ?
Download a fresh copy and attempt to reflash it again. I think you are in a stuck mode where the logic board is unable to boot till the BIOS is corrected.
If you feel you have the proper BIOS - contact HP to ask about this issue. A suggestion is to consider an older version of the firmware but best to ask HP if this is recommended. I believe that most BIOS firmware is bullet-proof to apply but best to be safe to ask for their advice.
In attempting to download the BIOS tool from the following HP website - it is an executable that has to run on Windows. This is a catch-22 if you are unable to boot from Windows.
Is this understanding correct ?
Share a pic of what you can see upon boot for a review. Is it a USB BIOS update tool of some sort ?Last edited by mon2; 07-01-2021, 11:01 AM.

Re: Problems with my HP 14-df0016ds Notebook (black screen)
Please confirm:
1) You are stuck with the screen that only allows you to update your bios ?
2) Post the full details of which download you used for this BIOS update. Which version? Filename ?
3) Noting some issues in the posted log.

Re: Problems with my HP 14-df0016ds Notebook (black screen)
Wow. This is a serious issue. I just posted the same on their forum. Someone has to have a proper resolution to this fault. No one posted an update to the owner from 04-2020. That is very sad.
Yes, post more information.
Do you have a local cell phone repair shop in your area ?
What may be required is to use SMD (surface mount) tool like a hot air gun to remove the FLASH BIOS chip and then a low cost flashing tool to fix this fault.
That is pathetic if this is the resolution. We know HP very well and have supplied them with our custom hardware for over 20 years to date. However, also know that they outsource such laptop designs to suppliers in Asia with varying quality.
Regardless, it is their responsibility to fix this issue. Law suits are made from such cases. Apple has lost millions on such recalls and faults.

Re: Problems with my HP 14-df0016ds Notebook (black screen)
Ok. Just found this which is worth a try. The idea is to remove the CMOS (coin cell battery) to reset the logic board.
Please read the full thread here -> try it or ask any questions here -> then post your results:

Re: Problems with my HP 14-df0016ds Notebook (black screen)
Any update on your screens that you can see ?
HP wrote back on their forum and have asked you to review the following:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629
Update the BIOS manually from a USB Flash drive (outside of Windows)
Do update this thread with your results.
