Do you think wireless charging will work?

      Re: iPhone XS not charging

It is worth a try. I think wireless chargers are quite low cost these days. Or better yet, bring in your phone to some shop that sell them and ask them to demo it to you using your phone

Some report that wireless charging is NOT WORKING after the update but hard wiring the USB (Lightning) cable does work but much slower than before. I think this is due to a heavier load on the CPU after this IOS update but not 100% sure.

Yes, I will try that option out 😂

I have also read some reports saying that.

Does the Hydra chip also control wireless charging?

True, but can you apply an older ios release as per their article?

You know that the older ios was working so see if the older version can be applied.

No it does let me apply an older iOS.

I have attached a picture of what is shows me.

Does the Hydra chip also control wireless charging or is it the Charger IC?

                Re: iPhone XS not charging

The Hydra chip is only a signal routing mux (multiplexer).

Much like a large toggle switch that sends the signals to one location or another as a group. The signals are from the usb flex cable.

Hydra is not the wireless charger.

Since you are unable to detect the phone using the lightning cable (usb interface), believe that Hydra should be replaced. Then test that usb works before considering the charger ic repair.

Do try a wireless charger to see if that works for you.

Found some random phone repair shops in Durban on the internet. Do any of them do low level repairs like this one? Ask how much for the hydra replacement and if they have the experience to do this service.

Leo from Qianli China (posted above) did reply back from China. He shared a local contact who should have the jig for the XS. However, the contact has not yet replied back.

                  Re: iPhone XS not charging

If the wireless charging works, what does that mean? Does it mean that the charger IC is fine and it is the Hydra?

I have contacted a phone repair store and he said he has done a Hydra replacement to an iPhone 8 a while back but not to an iPhone XS. He said he has the jig and the tools to replace it and asked me to bring it in.

What is the local contact's name, maybe I know them

                    1) Contact is George @ Gtool.com.

                    2) Have not reviewed the wireless charger properties of this design yet but will see if it is in our database of schematics.

                    3) If it is convenient, good to work with the local tech to confirm we are all on the proper track. You noted that the dockflex cable (lightning to logic board) has been replaced. Do confirm that is not a factor but know that the tristar / hydra failures are quite common. Concerned about the immense heat you noted earlier after the IOS update which may have caused some joint to come undone. Apple really needs to own this. For such a large company, they sure do like to dodge their responsibilities.

I am assuming that your local contact has the Hydra chips for your phone as well? That will be great if he does.

                      1) I think this may be his website: http://imobilerepair.co.za/Default.asp. He is in Johannesburg (City/state in SA)

                      2) Thank you, you can let me know if you find anything

                      3) I spoke to my contact and he said he will run all the tests (like testing a new dockflex cable) just to make sure that it is not something less serious. I will inform him of the heating and possible undone joints. I am sure he has a hydra chip or can get one.

                      4) I agree, Apple really needs to own this. They have caused major stress among everyone.

                      5) I turned the XS on today and had it plugged into my MacBook. I noticed some heat coming from the logic board but I cannot tell from where because of the stupid design. I am not sure if it is a short or the CPU.

This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Asus Chromebox CN62 - wrong chip put on BIOS reader
                        by BMCappelletti
                        Long story short:
                        - dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
                        - gave the computer to his son a couple years later
                        - son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
                        - too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)

He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8...

HP ProBook 445 G8 Battery not charging
                        by Julian Bailey
                        Hi all

We have in a HP ProBook 445 G8 laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 CPU. When power is connected the power LED light blinks 5 times then stops. Normally HP laptops will blink this LED 10 times as it does a self test when the AC adaptor is inserted. So there must be some sort of short somewhere.

The battery doesn't charge, and is erratic on the MM voltage. Bench PSU LED pulsates when the battery is connected also. So the fault must be on the charging circuit?

I have gone around the board with a MM and cant find anything

                        Windows shows the battery fine,...
