Apple Macbook A1398 Turns off randomly

    Hi,

    I have a problem on a Macbook A1398 with motherboard 820-3787-A.
It works fine, but sometimes it turns off.
I noticed that it happens more frequently with the battery plugged, so I changed the battery, but it does the same.
It also heats up a lot.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

Could be a thermal shutdown due to blocked exhaust vents. How dirty is the inside of the machine? Give it a good cleaning. Is the fan moving (if one is present)? The heatsink compound for the CPU could also be dry due to the age of the machine which will require a fresh application.

Turns off suddenly or freezes/goes black screen (possibly with fans spinning fast) and turning off a short after after?

I had thought that, so I cleaned it and changed the heatisink compound, but nothing changed. The fans work fine.

It turns off suddenly, and sometimes it reboots.

i think think it's one of these problems? https://boards.rossmanngroup.com/thr...y-ideas.52234/, https://boards.rossmanngroup.com/thr...ng-down.60637/

i think you can test this with disabling thunderbolt

What model year is the MacBook Pro?
U8900 bad chip connections is a well known issue on the 2012-2013 models. Use solder paste and re-solder the pins with a micro tip soldering iron. This usually brings it back.

820-3787 is the L2013 model. Doesn't have U8900 solder joints defect. It's still not impossible to have an issue with U9300 but very unlikely.
