Hi guys and A Happy New Year!
I have an HP Elitebook 8560p which, according to, supposedly, the original owner, died during a BIOS update. At the moment when I got it, the laptop would start from time to time, most of the time though it would blink CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK.
At some point I was able to enter CMOS setup, to run a memory test, to access the information page and it even tried to boot. There was no drive in it so no luck with that.
After trying some WIN-B/WIN-V tricks, I was not able to start it again. The laptop only blinks CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK for 5 times and then starts the fan at maximum RPM and that's all.
I stripped everything from it - wireless card, modem, memory, CDROM - same story.
At that point I decided to replace the BIOS chip. Having the same exact chip model, I grabbed a BIOS dump for this laptop, wrote the chip and replace it. There is no change - same 5 blinks and turbo fan after that.
So, has anyone any idea what the problem could be? One more thing - it's doing the same light code even with no memory installed.
Thanks,
B
