is DIS-to-UMA conversion gone?

Dear technicians,

I heard from a technician that all DIS laptops made after 2014 are designed and will be designed in a way that have single GPU (either DIS or UMA, not both) and can not be converted from DIS to UMA anymore. is this true?

I don't think, I have converted an asus x555l from dis to uma (5° gen cpu)

UMA conversion LA-4982P (Toshiba Satellite Pro L500 series)

Hello,

I have two almost identical computers, unfortunately both with a faulty MXM graphics card. More specifically:

- One doesn't enable the backlight and exhibits artifacts in the form of colored stripes, with the drivers crashing immediately with a BSoD upon loading.
- One was exhibiting very similar if not identical artifacts and then the GPU became fully shorted, right after a reflow attempt.

Since the LA-4982P was also manufactured without the MXM slot (pads unpopulated), I immediately thought about performing a UMA conversion. Unfortunately there...

How long were the displays on consumer-grade 1980s-era LED clocks designed to last?

Does anyone know? A recent thread has got me wondering if the folks who designed and built consumer-grade LED clocks in the 1980s ever envisioned them still being used in the 2020s or if they were designed to give out (i.e. planned obsolescence) long before then?

Perhaps a better way to phrase this would be: does anyone here still use a 1980s-era clock as a daily timepiece? If so, do you expect to get many more years out of it?

(Along those same lines, if it does eventually develop a fault, are you likely to try to fix it?)

Dell N5010 display issue after UMA conversion

Hey guys, need help figuring out what's causing the following issue.

I have a dell N5010 which had a bad GPU chip and a UMA conversion was performed.

Initial conversion was done per this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq8r920tW64

After conversion, laptop boots and display comes on but once windows starts loading, it becomes all fuzzy/dotted. I initially though it could be a driver issue, so I removed the HDD and booted into BIOS settings. Image was not fuzzy but some letter jitters (like dancing dots at the edge of the letters) was visible....
