    HP 6540b fan not working when charger disconnected

    So, fan is working fine if the laptop has not booted into anything (like windows or LiveCD) if the charger is connected. When disconnected, it just stops.

    And looks like it is barely working when it has booted and charger is connected.

    Although it is 6540b, BIOS says it's 6440b and because MPM is locked, I can't replace it with correct data with DMI tool. But since 6440b and 6540b BIOS is the same, it should not be the cause of this problem.

    Have tried with other working fan, still the same problem.

    Any more ideas?

      post your old bios and dmi data, csn, sku
      maybe i can fixed..

          Thanks for the offer but I just removed the control pin from the fan so it's always @ 100% and gave it back. Atleast it's better than an overheating laptop.

              Hello everybody!

              Have in work A1706 820-00239 model. Originally no power, shorted PPBUS_G3H because of corroded C6403, C6404. Some water damage around this components, but nothing major.

              After replacing this capacitors the laptop came back to work, I reinstalled MacOS and had no issues until I started to test Type-C ports. Sometimes the laptop shuts off immediately when some action with Type-C ports performed (charger disconnected or USB device inserted/disconnected). I checked Type-C port flexes, they are okay, but I cleaned them anyway. I can't see any signs of liquid...

              Hello,
              I'm working on a Lenovo T460 that has been having trouble charging as of late. Its worked well since I've owned it for a few years. When I went to use it the other day it was dead and wouldn't turn on (was sitting on an Anker 65W GaN charger). After some fiddling with the charger I got it to turn on and start charging, but seemed like the charger was not working as it should (took a few plug and unplug cycles to get it to start charging).

              A day later it was dead again and wouldn't boot/charge no matter what I did. No lights or anything when...

              Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 7567 LA-D993P that I've just got running.
              There was corrosion around PU1503 which shorted PC1518 & blew PL1504. (Reference pictures attached)
              I've replaced PC1518 & PL1504 & the laptop is now running however I now have another issue.

              Here are the tested scenarios:

              1. With the laptop running on battery, I plug in the 150W charger & the charger shuts off (no LED, protection mode) but the laptop remains running on battery.

              2. With the laptop off, plug in charger (LED says on) & the front charging...
