    Laptop fan

    Hi, I have a laptop here that is overheating and shutting down. I stripped it down for cleaning but found it nice and clean so I ordered a new fan (Toshiba Satellite L670). The fan arrived but the problem remains.

    I put my multimeter to the fan connect on the mobo and got 2.01v at power on, and it jumped to 2.54v when the temp reached 65c, it stayed at 2.54v up to 89c at which point the laptop shut itself down.

    The original fan is 5v 0.4a the new fan 5v 2a

    Any clues?

      If the heatsink wasn't blocked with lint as is usual and the heatsink is fitted correctly with new thermal paste, try changing the CPU as that is where the thermal sensor is.
