Compaq Presaria CQ61 - Wont Turn On

    Compaq Presaria CQ61 - Wont Turn On

    I have two of these laptops with same issue. One, I had reflashed the bios but same issue. When the charger is plugged in, you'll see the white light then after few seconds it goes off. Pressing the power button does nothing.

    I'm sure many of you seen this before. Any pointers to know where to look?

    I have got the bios from the hp site, renamed ".fd" to ".bin", reflashed but same issue. Could be the chip itself?

    Try finding a good dump and flash with that, if not working then change the bios chip.

      I have changed bios chip and re-flashed with a .bin file. I see only light on the dc jack. No light on switch/board. What could I also check?

          I'll try different power button but we need to stop blame bios. I said I have replaced bios chip with new and same issue.

              Got one with a shorted KBC and dead 3V_ALW/5V_ALW regulator. Even after replacing the KBC and the regulator, short is gone but the regulator won't turn on : nothing at the LDO output.

                Be aware that these need a genuine HP charger otherwise they will not power on.

                  as i remember there are tow kind of CQ61 one with intel cpu and the other with amd cpu.
                  99% the case is currupted bios.
                  this file contains both amd and intel bios (both tested)
                  try the one that match your board.
