notebook turns on but can not detect hdd......tried to reinstall osx but it only shows usb drive.....hdd cable also changed but still same....any ideas

Change the HDD connector it's looks fine but not working i had same problem .

no need to remove the mainboard. rtc battery connect on left low corner (near ram slot). ull find the write near it. it's also near to smc bypass with the always the same logo on remote controller to turn on and off things.

check voltage on 2 pins if they are around 3volt (for good rtc battery ).
