No sound in my ear phones

I have installed Windows XP on my Compaq Presario R3000.the sound is coming well in the speakers but when i plug in my ears phones the sound is still in the machine s speakers not in the ear phones
please help me to solve that problem

I've run into this before. It is a driver or firmware issue, I don't remember which. Look for updated BIOS, chipset and soundcard updates from Compaq.

Sorry, I don't recall, it's been a long time. Do a web search on that model for the headphone jack problem. It is a firmware and/or driver issue, not a hardware fault. That's all I can tell you.

Remembering more... I also recall that it was specific to WinXP on that machine, not Vista. Mine came with Vista and I put XP Pro on and then the headphone jack problem happened, so it had something to do with the hardware drivers for XP vs Vista and unfortunately I don't recall if I found a solution. The GPU eventually failed and I no longer have it.

If you want to check its a driver issue and not hardware boot from a Linux live CD like Mint and see if the headphones work.
