Scrambled display Dell Vostro 2420 Intel HD3000 graphics

looks great until i log in, then does that until i shut down, right at the end of shutting down it goes back to normal... so display is definitely not the problem.

tried uninstalling intel driver and reinstalling latest version, didn't help.

    any suggestions appreciated.

No. The GPU is part of the CPU on this laptop, NOT the chipset, so reballing won't make a bit of difference.

I actually had a very similar problem recently on Dell AIO. Half of the screen had funny lines flickering through it, but it would only happen after you logged on. It was actually OK on an external display, though, which makes me think it was the panel. Have you tried that laptop with another monitor plugged in?

Another thing you could try is the RAM. bad Graphics RAM can cause that kind of thing.

I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Please install graphics driver from dell website not intel's website.

I disagree. I only ever download graphics drivers from the GPU manufacturer's website (ie, Intel, nVidia or AMD). I never use the Dell, Acer or HP websites or any other PC manufacturer's website, and it never causes a problem. Dell always have outdated drivers on their website.

I'm almost certain that this is a hardware problem, not a driver problem.

I was originally running the driver from Dell, and when I used the Intel driver instead it made no difference.

When I connected an HDMI minotor the issue didn't occur - but it only happens maybe 1/4 boots anyway... I really don't think it's the panel - either a software issue or a hardware issue.

Were you able to find the source of this problem? I am having the exact problem with my Dell 2420 despite whatever driver I install and I am getting really sick of it. It is happening frequently. I am pretty sure it is hardware related as well.

It seems the GPU is not compatible with this specific resolution of Laptop monitor.
                          try another monitor resolution.
the fault may appear only at a specific resolution.
The external monitor probably had another resolution.
