    Samsung ATIV Tablet dead

Hi so I have a Samsung ATIV 500T Tablet running Windows 8 and recently the power LED died which I traced back to a bad SMD resistor, unfortunately in the process of replacing this I shorted out a small SMD capacitor that was in parallel to this LED, I saw some smoke and the device shut off. The device would not power on so I removed the battery connector and after an hour the device powered on and was functioning as normal for about two weeks. After this I left the tablet unattended for about a week and I think the battery had completely died so I plugged it in and nothing. It was completely dead. I have attached some pictures of the motherboard. I tested every single SMD resistor on the board with a multimeter and they were all good. I'm thinking it's maybe a bad power IC? It has a WINBOND W25Q16BVSIG Bios chip I don't know if this is faulty or how to test it with a multimeter but I have a hot air rework station and I am capable of getting a preprogramed chip off ebay and soldering it on to the motherboard if necessary.

    Please help. Thank you...

So when you said (in the process of replacing this I shorted out a small SMD capacitor that was in parallel to this LED, I saw some smoke) Did you replace this capacitor? it mayhave something to do with the charging etc?

No this capacitor is just connected to the power LED.

Can somebody please try to help me? I really need to get this working. Perhaps there's a power IC we can identify and try to test or replace.

          Thanks

              OK

              1. I tried to replace the resistor marked (1) in the picture and shorted out capacitor marked (2)

              2. The device would not power on anymore since the battery completely lost charge

If the battery is completely discharged, it has a minimum acceptable level of charge, if the charge is less, the charge controller will not allow it charged, you need to try to charge the battery from an external power source.

When I shorted the capacitor as mentioned in the previous post I saw some smoke and the tablet died and would not power on. So I removed the battery connection it started working 30 mins later after plugging the battery back in.

Shouldn't the tablet power on without the battery connected? Just on AC power? Could it be a bad power IC?

So what should I do? can I charge the battery externally through a 5V USB cable?

Ok so 3V is not enough? I can try to slowly charge the battery a little at least via USB whilst monitoring the voltage to get the tablet to recognize it

In general point is to charge the battery up to the level position , while it recognizes the tablet
