ASUS K72JR try alternative GPU chip

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with a K72JR asus gpu, but I do not have the correct chip at this time, an ATI 216-0774007 PARK XT 64-bit.
I'm reading on another forum that a guy have changed 216-0772000 HD5650 madison pro with a park xt 216-0774007, you can do the reverse? I read some note on schematic about other gpu models (m92, m96, m97) but I do not understand what they mean. I indicate the notes with a red circle on the photo, can someone help me check if ther is a possibility to weld another kind of gpu? (I read M96 and M97 but they are not old models as HD4650 HD4870 directx 10.1 instead 11.0 ??? ???)
    thanks

Re: ASUS K72JR try alternative GPU chip

its another gpu for that board, but there are many other components that must be changed or removed. better use same chip or interchangable for that chip.

do u really have bad chip or just cracked ball under the chip???

Re: ASUS K72JR try alternative GPU chip

The original chip was destroyed from a bad solder method (someone copy from youtube a heat gun rework method that delaminate the chip, luckily, the motherboard is not delaminated), because this notebook is very cheap (cpu is pentium p6100 .....) to buy a new chip is too expensive, I decide to desolder from an hp with a damaged southbridge the same chip. After a correct preparation , ( I have an honest set of tool, an ersa IR station and a zeiss binocular stereoscope 20x and so on) ,remove humidity, preheat, etc I solder the chip and the system seems to be fine, but after two weeks some artefact is showed on the video. If I remove the heatsink, the video returned ok but if I remount the heatsink, the artefact return again (I think there is a problem with die connect inside the chip but I don't have an x-ray tool to see whats happened) . Now I have no reason to buy a new chip or resolder the chip that show the artefact and I'd want to put an alternative chip to experiment and improve my electronic skill. I read on schematic :
voltage change for M92-m2-xt 216-0728014 (I have this chip) from 1.0 v to 1.1 v ..... but it not explain well...

Re: ASUS K72JR try alternative GPU chip

To try M92 that is 216-0728014 correct ?
        I read from schematic:
STEP 1 "M92 has no DP C/D" and "No DP C/D , can delete filter capacitor"
in attachment I circle in red the capacitor filter that i must remove
        STEP 2 "DP[A: D]_VDD18 unmount for M92-M2"
        "DP[A: D]_VDD18 (1.8V@130mA DPA_VDD18)"
        "DP[A: D]_VDD18 unmount for M92-M2"
        "+1.1VSG : 1.1V for M92 ; 1.0V for Park"
        Refear to l7009 -> l7012 ? circle in blu
STEP 3 " DP C/D For Park has no DP D and DP C not used L7001 and
        R7007 unmount or mount ?.
For M92 has no DP C/D unmount L7001 and R7007."
In this case here is an error, l7001 isn't in schematic .....
        I don't understand well STEP 3 and if M92-M2 is 216-0728014

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
          by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Asus Chromebox CN62 - wrong chip put on BIOS reader
          by BMCappelletti
          Long story short:
          - dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
          - gave the computer to his son a couple years later
          - son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
          - too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)

He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8...

          Asus laptop EC/SIO chip replacement
          by ebugs
Asus Vivobook 15 (board X513ea R2.0) gone dead when user plugged an iPhone cable into the USB-C port during boot. Now there's no LED light, no power at all. I checked all MOSFETs and capacitors, no shorts found. The board only has 3.3V and 5V present, no other voltages.

I injected 3.3V into the EC chip power rail (ITE IT5125VG 128), and it draws 80mA, while the 3.3V LDO chip RT8249C has a max output of 100mA. I checked the boardview and found there are only two chips on this 3.3V rail, EC and Realtek audio chip. So I think EC could be the problem.

          I found the EC chip...

Problem Flashing Macronix MX25L6445E BIOS Chip with CH341A and EZP2019+ on ASUS X455LD
          by pengamat_hebat
          Hello everyone,

I'm trying to flash the BIOS chip Macronix MX25L6445E from my ASUS X455LD laptop using both a CH341A and an EZP2019+ programmer, but I keep encountering issues.

Reading the chip works perfectly, and I can extract the BIOS dump without any problems.

However, erasing and writing fail every time, regardless of the software I use. (Neo, asprog, ch341, etc)

I also tried applying 3.3V to pin 3, but it still didn't work.

I attempted to unprotect the chip, but when I read it back, the registers remained unchanged.

Asus X571GT repair chip replace and tips wanted
          by Jeroentje
          Hi

I try to repair a asus Asus X571GT (DA0XKTMB8C0) no power no lights.
I saw a burned (small hole in it) chip (JW10F) proberly a TPS22976DPUR, I removed it, now with power connected the laptop turns on and direct off again, power led and fn will light up.
          I found on a donor lenovo board a G2898KD1U (wa9y), looks the same ..
Result is still the same, turns on and direct off again, first attempt is with backlight on all other direct attempts are only the power and fn led.

Could it be the chip is to diffrent to make the laptop work again ?
