    TOSHIBA SATELLITE C650-1CT Dead!!

    Hi Guys,

Hope you can help please, I have a TOSHIBA satellite C650-1CT, PSC08E-03M001EN that is totally dead. OK so what has happened so far, it had a faulty screen (white vertical band, about 1cm wide down the screen) so I have a test screen which I fitted and all was OK so I ordered a new screen, fitted it all OK, I then ordered 2GB RAM from Mr Memory, to take it from 3GB to 4GB.

Fitted it all OK, Logged on etc and tested it OK, switched it off and returned it to my sister, she switched it on the next day and the window logo came up and it just sat on that for ages and from what she said the screen went funny and it turned of, since then it will not work. I did get it to power up but had a black screen, since it did that it has been dead!

When I stripped it and fitted screen and RAM I was using an ESD kit.

I have checked that the adapter is giving out 19v, I then checked the pins of the connector on the motherboard and on both red wires I get 19v actually on the motherboard. I checked the fuse by the connector from the power jack and that is OK.

Help please, see attached picture of both sides of the motherboard.

Hi there. If it was stuck at the logo screen might needed a BIOS reset. Have you tried to remove the CMOS battery and leave it out? Or there might be a corruption in BIOS chipset already.

Hi, I did remove BIOS battery for about 1 minute, is that long enough?

Yes of course it is long enough. Then the bios might be corrupted. Can you flash it?

Hi, I do not know how to flash the Bios, sorry I forgot to mention that there are NO lights on at all when the charger is put in to laptop, so no charge indicator etc.

You have to take out the bios chip and flash it on an external programmer. Yes could be from it that it the device is dead.

Quick update... I forgot to mention I had tried to remove the processor and re paste the processor with artic silver paste.

I have removed the RAM and put it back to 3GB and also remove all of it.

Probably something got shorted on board. I think bios chip is labeled U501 8 pin ic with red dot on top, top left corner of Intel southbridge.

Hi, I guess it is, I have seen a very detailed post about a similar model to mine where it listed voltages to check etc and the guy just replaced a single component. Anyone know where I can start checking voltages etc to find the fault rather than just replacing the motherboard.

                    Thank you

just check all of big coils to find 3.3VALW, then push the powerbutton and check if 5V came on/5V coil will be right next to 3,3V coil/

Can you be more specific about the coils? I have attached two pictures showing both side of the motherboard. Can I do the check with just the motherboard with power adapter in on do I need screen, HD etc attached?

                            Thank you

                                  hi,

                                  in circles are coils
                                  the other is the BIOS

you should have 3.3v and 5v on two of those coils.

attached is the schema. hope it will help you trace the signals

on page 6 check FUSE (FUSE6000), Q6002, L6000 (coil). And page 8 check coil L6201.

Also did you try to power the board without LCD? Try using only external monitor. Maybe the LCD panel is in short-cut.

I would start by measuring the +VBAT rail for 19v while powered by the charger.
