Hi. It's a long story with that laptop. Initially, it wouldn't turn on. Some MOSFETs were shorted, and 0-ohm resistors connected to the current measuring circuit were fried as well. I didn't know about the resistors at the time, so I replaced the MOSFETs and was able to turn on the laptop by connecting 20V directly to the B+ line. Windows booted, and everything worked fine.
Then another XPS came along without a BIOS chip, so I decided to borrow the IC from the first XPS. I made a backup of the first BIOS firmware. Some time later, I discovered that the resistors were fried on the first XPS and reinstalled the BIOS chip.
Now, the laptop turns on—fans spin, the keyboard backlight comes on, and the Caps Lock light turns on—but when I press Caps Lock, nothing happens. When the keyboard backlight goes off and I press any key, it lights up again. However, there is no display and no POST. I'm scratching my head as I don't know why it isn't working.
After I first connect the charger, it pulls 1.4A, then restarts and draws 1.8A, staying at that level. When I press D and plug the charger in, the display diagnostics show up (colors on the screen). I've tried a number of different BIOS firmware versions found online with the same result.
Any help will be appreciated.
