    Toshiba A665 LA-6061P REV 2.0

Long story short my dad and I were arguing over this laptop whether or not it was a bad screen or something wrong with the board.
VGA out on laptop worked and lcd was displaying but it was all garbled or only showing top half of the screen and the picture was freezing from time to time, I said the screen was bad, but my dad wasn't convince. Anyways I took a good known led screen I had on hand and plugged it in and it work, it displayed fine until it booted into windows and I saw the desktop, then proceeded to shut down, well I think I overdrew on one of the components and killed it because it went dead, system still displaying on vga though, but the screen went off like it had power down.

Took it apart didn't see anything, removed heatsink saw that Q4 looked a bit melted.

I think this board was designed by compal.

I want to know what Q4 is, I think it is a dual fet of some sort.

It does have one legible letter, it's "K" but the rest is just gone.

      Actually yes, thank you.

      Page 17
      Q4A Q4B
      PCH_SMLDATA1 PCH_SMLCLK1
has it listed as two separate 2N7002DW-T/R7 which are sot-363-6

Looking at the board, I see other sot-363-6 with K27 stamp on them. Particular one, Q11 near Q30 which is a 4800B mosfet. On page 34 section +5VALW TO +5VS shows same 2N7002DW-T/R7 for Q11A/Q11B.

Hopefully this is the only thing I need to replace. I think I can dig up a 2N7002DW from one of the scrap boards around here.

Are you sure that the Q4A or B is bad? From the picture i can see only some gelly around the chip. Did you try to scratch with the nail to see if it remains?
