Hey everyone,
I bought a MacBook Pro 2017 A1708 to repair. I bought it knowing one usb port is not working (completely dead) and no usb data transfer possible from the working port as well (only charging).
I replaced the CD3215 chip and also changed the usb redriver chip on the other side of the motherboard which is not in the boardview and schematic (there was a small hole on it).
Now the motherboard is completely back to life and both ports work without any issues. This was a little history from the device. No prior signs of repair before I start as well.
The issue I have is that the camera isn't being detected and opening FaceTime it says "No camera Available. To use FaceTime, connect a camera." System Information page says "No video capture device were found" under Camera as well. No green light on the camera as well.
The problem is I don't know for sure if the device had a working camera before I replace the usb c chips. I don't know working with the heat gun has affected U3900 and U4000 which are very close to the usb redriver chip.
I have tried a known good display assembly and am sure it's not from the camera itself. Also, the ASL seems to be functioning perfectly.
Do you think a reflow on both U3900 and U4000 be a good idea at this point? Unfortunately I don't have stencil for these chips to replace them. But since this is not a costumer laptop, I think I can take my time with the repair and buy the stencils if need be.
Would appreciate any help.
Cheers.
