    820-00840 No camera detected

    Hey everyone,

I bought a MacBook Pro 2017 A1708 to repair. I bought it knowing one usb port is not working (completely dead) and no usb data transfer possible from the working port as well (only charging).

I replaced the CD3215 chip and also changed the usb redriver chip on the other side of the motherboard which is not in the boardview and schematic (there was a small hole on it).

Now the motherboard is completely back to life and both ports work without any issues. This was a little history from the device. No prior signs of repair before I start as well.

The issue I have is that the camera isn't being detected and opening FaceTime it says "No camera Available. To use FaceTime, connect a camera." System Information page says "No video capture device were found" under Camera as well. No green light on the camera as well.

The problem is I don't know for sure if the device had a working camera before I replace the usb c chips. I don't know working with the heat gun has affected U3900 and U4000 which are very close to the usb redriver chip.

I have tried a known good display assembly and am sure it's not from the camera itself. Also, the ASL seems to be functioning perfectly.

Do you think a reflow on both U3900 and U4000 be a good idea at this point? Unfortunately I don't have stencil for these chips to replace them. But since this is not a costumer laptop, I think I can take my time with the repair and buy the stencils if need be.

    Would appreciate any help.
    Cheers.

Would appreciate any input fellas. Is this a common issue on this model? Can't seem to find many threads on camera issues on forums.

Thanks mon2. I've already watched this video and we have different issues. His camera is being recognized and he has green light on the camera when opening any camera app. The component on his laptop is in good condition on mine.

Carefully measure the voltage to ground of CAMERA_PWR_EN.

Camera is a MIPI CSI design. Be sure that all linked parts are present and properly soldered onto the board. Review the following region on the board for missing components.

Checked all the surrounding circuitry but found nothing. Looks very clean and complete.

Camera_Power_EN is 3.28v when initially starting to boot outside the housing. It stops for a few seconds then begins to interval at 0v and 3.28v continuously after half the booting process is done and even when the system is fully on.
