Apple MacBook A2337 - No backlight

Hi guys, I've got MacBook Air a2337 with no backlight. Once while testing it displayed with the backlight, however after restart problem come back.

The laptop was tested with fully working screen.

    PP5v_BKLT_A/B 5V
    PP5v_BKLT_D 5V
    PP5V_S2 5V
    PP5V_SW_LCD 0.4V
    P5VS2_PWR_EN 1.8V
    P5VS2_BST_R 8V
    P5VS2_SW 5V
    PPBUS_5VS2_VIN 5V
    PPVOUT_LCDBKLT - Doesn't short 0V
    FP800 - Both sides 12v
    BKLT_EN_R & BL_PWR_EN - around 1.8v

LP800 0.014V On both sides (should be 12? / no short)
UC300 & UP800 Replaced with tested one - no difference.
Just to clarify, no backlight - I can see display very dim.

What are the voltage to ground measurements for:

      I2C_BKLT_SCL
      I2C_BKLT_SDA

Share the voltage to ground of the mosfet @ QP800:

      source
      gate ; LCDBKLT_EN_L
      drain

        I2C_BKLT_SCL 5.1V
        I2C_BKLT_SDA 5.1V

        QP800 - LCDBKLT_EN_L (3) 12V, (leg 1,2,6,5 - 0.4v PPVIN_LCDBKLT_Q), PPVIN_LCDBKLT_R (4) 12v.
During test again I've got display, however after restart same thing with no backlight, while backlight were on Each side had 12v on the QP800

Take a piece of wire and short pin # 3 on QP800 to ground. This action will force enable the P-channel mosfet @ QP800. Be careful to touch only pin # 3 on QP800.

The thread below this one is with a similar fault.

Check the FB pin on the backlight IC. Confirm the FB resistors are present. Confirm the diode @ DB800 is not defective.

What is the voltage to ground of IPD_LID_OPEN_1V8?

                IPD_LID_OPEN_1V8 - 1.8v
DP800 - 0.350 One way, checked same reading on the spare board
                PPVOUT_LCDBKLT_SW 0.3V
                PPVOUT_LCDBKLT - 0.15V

Is PP5V_SW_LCD voltage to ground stable?

Measure the LCDBKLT_HS_ISENSE signal on the board. This signal is a gauge of the current sense of the display assembly.

Confirm the details of the mosfet @ QP801. Test with the meter in resistance mode.

                  source / drain
                  source / gate
                  gate / drain

A low resistance means the mosfet is defective.

Suggest to flux and reflow the replaced known good backlight IC. Test again.

Apple MacBook Pro A2485 - No backlight
                    by tommy97
                    Hi everyone,

We're working on an A2485 MacBook with no backlight after liquid damage. The damage occurred near the backlight IC (UP800). We've checked all the nearby resistors and capacitors, and everything seems fine. We replaced UP800 from a donor board.

However, UP830 was also liquid damaged, and after cleaning, resistor RK830 came off. Unfortunately, I can't find its value, and the schematic doesn't indicate it as a critical component.

Would anyone have insights or a way to confirm the RK830 value?

                    Thanks in advance!

Apple Macbook Air M1 A2337 Trackpad problem
                    by Skrndelj
                    Hello all,

                    I am repairing a Macbook A2337 and i have a problem
The Macbook is stuck in restore as someone before me tried a DFU restore and bricked the device, now i can't do a restore as AC2 throws error 1 which is related to the trackpad.
When i turn on the device i get the trackpad click for a few moments and then nothing, i tried 7 trackpads and 7 trackpad flats, i know all 7 are functioning okay, especially one as i use it for testing and DFU restore.
I inspected the whole board and everything seems fine.
Can anyone help me as i didn't fiddle with trackpad...

                    by DDVL
Hello amazing geniuses, boy do i have an exciting machine with me that needs knowledge I don't posses.

Alright so machine was liquid damaged top case side. The board only seemed to have liquid on the backlight decoupling caps. So shorted to ground. So I removed the caps to find a crater. Still had a short to ground on ppvout_lcdbcklt, so I injected voltage and internal short nearcp601 and cp604. Then proceeded to dig the short out, lots of grinding and cutting later the short is gone. Yay! However, this was shorted lived as still no backlight. Now the confusing stuff.

                    No Backlight Macbook A1990 820-01041
                    by Comp_Pro
                    Hello all,

Am trying to figure out this backlight issue with this A1990 Macbook Pro.

                    Tests performed:

There is no backlight even with a good screen.
Backlight IC is receiving the correct support voltages.
                    Fuse F8400 ok
                    Current sense resistor R8400 ok
Backlight IC is receiving 3.3V on enable pin.
Backlight IC receiving voltage from PPBUS_G3H, aprox 12.5V.
Backlight IC receiving 5V from PP5V_G3S
Backlight IC BKLT_SCL and BKLT_SDA both measure 0.545V diode mode to ground
                    I2C_BKLT_SCL and I2C_BKLT_SDA both measure...
