Nvidia or ATI better for reballing

    Hi people
I want to ask you when you do reballing, sometimes BGA died and it is necessary to replace BGA. I had to change some times ATI GPU and sometimes Nvidia BGA because they demage with reballing. For example I had problems with GPU 216-0674022 and always with Nvidia MPC67

What is your opinion. Which ATI or Nvidia endure more??

MCP67 is defective and must be replaced. Reballing will not help any. The problem is there's quite a shortage of those chips. I refuse anything with MCP67 in it because there are no trusted suppliers for this chip.

I haven't killed any chip when reballing, either nVidia or ATi. Unless it was already dead to begin with. Only when i first started and was heating them for too long i bloated and shorted a bunch of chips, then i learned what the proper times are. But again, i do 4-5 reballs a month at most so i always take my time with it.

Hi, thank you lot for this info

when you says: "Unless it was already dead to begin with."

how do you know when it is dead or begin? For example when I recive a laptop with scratches on screen, after reballing sometimes it has perfect video, sometimes no video...
What is your opinion for this?

interesting question, maybe we could check vcc and ground if shorted before reball. in ps3 rsx we have vcc and gnd. if it is shorted generally is better to get a new chip without try the old one.

ati chip looks more fragiel to me.... pcb is thinner then nvidia.
