Dead usb ports on Acer Aspire 5740g

Recently bought of someone this dead laptop. It received majore liquid incursion and the board was dead, everything else checked out good. So I bought for 30£ another motherboard off ebay and by changing the kbc chip and programming a new bios I managed to fire it and later ansamble it. However, I noticed this moment the the external usb board conected through a cable to the mainboard couldnt enter in it's socket because 2 pins were inshort and I already started a few times the laptop.
Now the usb are dead, my electrician checked them out to be okay but something is still missing. Is it possible that the bd is broken cause of the short I found? Do I have to replace that?

    you need to change them.
open the notebook again and when you replace check to see if there is 5v supply.

    Bafta!
Just cook it! It's already broken.

        So? Whats the problem then.
If you got 5v there and a working usb in the notebook extend from a working one with wires but use the original supply.
Easy. Its like making a hub in the laptop.
If you don't then thats bad then we rly talk.

Well, when I said they are dead I really ment that. If i try to attach a mouse or flash drive to either hubs the windows keeps telling me that it cant recognize the device and only stops these messages if I restart the machine. That was the moment when someone told that the bd is faulty and needs to be replaced.

So just to clarify, ALL usb ports are dead? Or just the ones on the right side?

As I mentioned in my original post, the conector that goes to the 2x right usb's had 2 pins shorted. Something I only found out when I wanted to put togheter the laptop and the jack didnt fit in properly.
The 2x usb on the mainboard are dead as well, one kept functioning for awhile, it could control the mouse but after sometime it died too.
                        So now, all are dead.

If as you say have 5v on usb connectors then you need to change the PCH chip.

This sounds like PCH to me too.

It is doing both the jobs of Southbridge and Northbridge (integrated graphics) and Intel call it Platform Controller Hub (PCH)

Thank you. I ordered a pch. My only problem now is that these chips use 0.35mm balls which is blast to work with. I once experimented with changing one and it didnt work. Let's hope I'll have more luck this time.
