    Toshiba L730 - No boot

I've bought a Toshiba L730 board that is described as non-booting for £20. It has one of the newer NEC Tokin caps (I think it's an OD128) on the back which I think will be my first port of call when it arrives. Has anyone had any experience with these newer Tokin caps? I've seen two cases of them causing a problem already on L635s.

Also, any tips as to replacement? Space is already incredibly tight for soldering with the OE128s and these OD128s are even smaller. Am I going to need to leave the bottom layer intact?

Recieved the board today, an obvious complete goner, water damage everywhere - even in the CPU socket and on the WiFi card. I really wish people were more precise when advertising these things.

When you buy stuff like that on the net, do you ask the owner's if they can post pics for you? I usually do that and if they don't show pics then its a no for me. Obviously they needed money for it and that's your advantage.

You mean to say that board got a lot of burnt components everywhere?

It was an ebay seller. I know I need to be more careful but I thought worst case scenario I could sell the CPU and recoup all the costs. I can't even do that now.

I didn't notice immediately but looking close, it's a wreck. Capacitors corroded to the point that they fall off with a prod, and QFN chips with burnt legs basically everywhere. Must have been submerged completely.

oh my I guess it's gonna be another board for spare components.

Maybe you can try to wash the whole board and see if its really bad

Surprisingly enough I can't actually find any shorted rails on it. I might just plug it in and see what it does for the fun of it, I'd be amazed if it did anything at all :p

EDIT: What's the best way to wash it? Just blast it with water and then leave in rice or something?

i will rly wanna know to cuz what i try last time i ended up taking components out from the mobo.
i don`t even know what it fell of or whats gone.
the components(motherboard in fact) was so dirty, when i try to wash the board many thinks flew off .
You`ll be shock how it look and it still power up LOL.
This is what i learn maybe you will get something of it.
When its super dirty, components are super corroded when you wash it it will fell off because of the low(bad) solder that it barely keeping the components on the motherboard.
Just cook it! It's already broken.

Board is deffo scrap, took a closer look and there are various components on the VIN section with legs blown off (with the pads) and scorched. Ah well.
