Is it possible to bypass the USB-C PD and use adapt a barrel style charger?

        In theory, yes.

The PD controller is a stand alone controller that will request the supported power delivery contracts (voltage & current pairs) from the mated power source. Then the PD controller will select the most suitable PD contract to power up the logic board. Often, it will be 20V @ xx current.

This PD contract is presented on the VBUS rail which is then fed onto the charger leg of the circuit - often at the DCin mosfets. This is where the same circuits as we have all seen are applied like the barrel jack power adapters.

In theory, the VBUS pin is where the raw barrel jack connector voltage should be applied. Review the charger circuit to study if the DCin mosfets will enable once there is enough voltage at that junction. That is, once 20v is presented, the DCin mosfets must enable to proceed with the power path.

For now, study the idea but yes, it could work. Sometimes the laptops feature 2 methods to power the boards - traditional / magsafe (macbook) style + USB Type C. Be sure to test each method if the laptop supports it. We have seen 2 of these this week alone. The client had liquid spill so we were able to clean up the corrosion and the $3k macbook was saved.

          Hello

By me was today C421 with same problem - input only 5V. After bootup win with precharged battery was visible problem in device manager - Device UCM-UCSI shows error code.
So i have desoldered rts5455 from donor board (E590), then bios update. After reboot no error in device manager, but still not charging
          So i have replaced 6S30A (SN1710033RUKR).
          ....and now is all fine

Soo i can confirm, that rts5455 from another board is working after "reflash".

            Hello!

i have the same problem, changed the rts5455 and 6sS30A from donor board, but still only 5V charging...The original problem was a bad C-type connector, i replaced that also and still no charging...replaced the two chips, still the same...charged the battery ,did a bios update...still nothing...what next?

You must charge the battery somehow and load windows and let it update the firmware, or update it manually from Lenovo site...

Tks , so the laptop does not look for connected charger.

And here is the connection for RTS5455. After the connection is made, you can use any charger connected to USB Type-C (you just need 5V) to power the programming process.
                        I'm using SVOD4.

what is 6S30A? i have similar issue and not sure if getting new Realtek chip is enough?
