Acer Nitro 5 - CPU Fans spin full speed when turned off

Hello guys,

I need some help with Acer Nitro AN515-54.
As said in the title, as soon as I shut down the laptop, the screen goes black like usual, lights off, but cpu fans go full speed until the battery is dead.

This started to happen yesterday after I have done some improvements to the laptop.

1. Reinstalled new Windows 10 + drivers and updates

2. Installed new 8GB RAM stick so total 12 now.

3. Installed additional M2 NVME drive

4. Installed additional hard drive (here comes my doubts, I installed 10 pin sata cable, because i did not have the original one, but the original is 12 pin, also I forgot to disconnect the battery while plugging/unplugging the cable.)

It could be coincidence, but the issue started happening after I have made these changes.

Do you have any advice or suggestions?

Very likely a broken dc-dc converter on 3V/5V lines.

Its not my job to convince you. Why not measure and see if the enable pin voltage drops to zero or not after shutdown on this dc-dc converter. The enable wont be removed if the converter is defective and hence the fan keeps rotating

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it look like that.
I have measured the voltage at the fan connector and seems like the PWM line is changing from 3.5 - 5v. The only problem is that I couldn't find the chip that is controling the voltage.

Maybe you have a similar case with a defective temperature signal mosfet on the smbus lines to PCH...

Does the issue persist when you revert all hardware changes and install a clean windows again?
