    Toshiba L300 flashing LEDs

Got an L300 here, board level repair performed by myself not long ago (the usual NEC/Tokin replacement, shouldn't be related in any way). Has been working fine for about a month.

Basically, when powering up with a RAM stick in the lower slot, everything works perfectly.

But when powering up with a RAM stick in the upper slot, the power LED blinks 6 times: orange, orange, green, orange, orange, green. All flashes are of equal length. The POST screen shows for a split second. After this, the laptop powers off again.

Happens regardless of AC or battery power.

Any ideas what may be causing this? Shorted ceramic cap on that RAM slot perhaps?

    Cheers

EDIT: Without CPU it powers on and then just sits there without flashing lights. Not too sure what that means.

EDIT2: Found some tiny bits of solder shorting a few ceramic caps behind the southbridge. I've removed them but still the problem remains - maybe they damaged the slot. Guess I'll just have to be more careful with my soldering in the future.

PAD2 is 1.8v with working slot but only 0.9v with dead slot.

        Hi

I am having the exact same problem on my Toshiba L300-145. I also replaced the NEC Tokin BUT this problem appeared before the Nek Token needed replacement. It doesn't bother me too much because my laptop only supports 2GB of memory and i'm using 2GB on the first slot.

If i use the second slot, the power LED blinks orange and green and shows the POST for a second then turns off, exactly like yours.

Were you ever able to find the problem?

i have seen many of those toshibas with 2+1 gb ram.... maybe second slot does not support more than 1gb... seen much limitations on intel platforms in past

          also may try updating bios

            Hi,

I did try 1x1GB using the "damaged" slot but same thing happens. Before the ram slot failed i was using 2x1GB with no problems. I'm still pretty sure this have something to do with the nec tokin / CPU because the slot failed when the nec tokin started making weird noises when using the laptop charger.

Ill try updating the bios. thank you for the idea.

can you make image of nec/tokin work

perhaps a bad cap or to much esr
try replacing caps with used ones from another board for salvage

                Hi,

I am trying to fix this DK10FG board for a friend. It is not powering up.

When I plug-in power adapter, its DC IN led and Caps lock start flashing. Even cpu fan gets on/off kick like flashing leds. No battery attached. Nothing happens on pressing power button. I checked the charger IC and it seems fine. (ACOK - 3.3v). Re-programmed the bios but no luck.

I checked SIO chip NPCE885LA0DX and here's the reading
