    Nvidia Defect Question

    Hey all.

I want to buy a VGN-TX5XN motherboard for an all-in-one PC mod - because it's small enough to fit in the monitor, and has a C2D T7100 with an 8600M GS, powerful enough to run Minecraft. It's the only one of its type I've been able to determine is suitable (others of that size seem to have a GMA900 or similar)

I've not been able to find any reports of the Nvidia defect hitting this laptop. Does anyone know if it's affected?

    Re: Nvidia Defect Question

    Well the GPU is affected.
In my opinion, anything from the GeForce 7 to the GeForce 8 should be avoided, even some low end GeForce 9 and OEM G1xx.
On computers of this era, stick with ATi or Intel chips, I have two laptops with X1300 and X1350 and the work perfectly.

Doesn't it depend on the revision tho?

I'd love to go for Intel or AMD-based GPUs but all the integrated ones I find from that era are either dead weak, or there isn't a small enough board featuring them for the project.

If anyone knows of a small board of similar power, please let me know!

The 8600M GS board is the only one I've found that's capable of 1080p Minecraft.

How likely are these things to fail if they're kept at mega cool tempuratures, like 35*c or thereabouts? I have space to give it a giant ass heatsink in the all-in-one.
