Good evening everyone!
I have a XPS M1530 that developed a bad memory socket B a few months ago and I'm strugling with the missing memory.
One night it BSOD on me and when I tried to reboot all I would get is the front power light stays lit, the power button and Bluetooth light would stay on for a second then turn off along with fan.
So far I have swapped memory modules A - B and also tried different memory modules altogether with no change. The problem presents if anything is inserted in socket B.
I have also closely inspected both memory sockets and the solder connections and don't see anything suspicious. I have applied pressure every way I could think of and that didn't help either. I have also baked the boared a second time with no change.
I am looking for any suggestions on diagnosing and repairing this problem. I'm starting to get involved with these types of repairs and learning/capable of doing surface mount rework.
History:
About a year ago I obtained a Dell XPS M1530 laptop that had the infamous failed nvidia GPU chip issue. After doing a little research I decided to try the oven bake method just to see what would happen. Unbelievably it's worked great so far with the exception of the above issue.
Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have spent a lot of time trying searching for information but keep coming up empty handed.
Thank you
Randy
