I checked the trace from the ATX connector to the NCT6795 and it does seem to be broken. I guess I will get a chance to practice my micro soldering skills and patch that sucker up
I will update this thread once I've had the time to try to fix the connection.

Thanks again!
/ Lalle

EDIT: I might have jumped to conclusions. Looking at the schematic, the resistor I thought carried the signal seems to be a no-mount, and the signal is controlled through an NMOS. I'll have to investigate some more....

• MSI B450i Gaming Plus AC - MS-7A40 Ver 2.0 - not powering on

Hello!

I have a problem with a MSI B450I Gaming Plus AC motherboard.
I bought it as defective, thinking it was an easy fix. It turns out it wasn't (for me at least).

Problem: The board does not power on when shorting the PWR_SWITCH pins. No sign of life what so ever.
What I've tried:
I downloaded the latest non-beta BIOS from MSI's website and flashed it manually with a ch341a programmer.
Installed only a compatible CPU - Ryzen 3 2200G, nothing more, no peripherals connected.
Measured resistance on the ATX power connectors - no shorts,...

Many thanks for this!
I tried BIOS-UEFI [0x00554E03-0x01554E03].bin
Initial testing (motherboard on my desktop, nothing except RAM connected) gets past the invalid memory at least, so it seems good so far.
I will report back after more extensive testing.

Thank you, I really appreciate it! ...

Double checked, that is the service tag.
If it matters this is from a spare motherboard i bought from Ebay, and have been using up 'til now...

Hello!

I have a BIOS request.
I need a 'virgin' BIOS for the Dell G5 SE 5505.
Motherboard model:
Selek MLK AMD
19802-1
FGRDN$JA.
Service tag 2MJDB63

I have tried both BIOSes posted in this thread, but they don't work for me - I get a black screen and status led blinks 2 red + 5 white (Invalid memory).
I tried extracting the BIOS from a dell package, but did not succeed.

Background: Decided to update BIOS from 1.7.0 to 1.20.0. The update failed and my PC did not start.
I used a CH341a to erase all data on the...

• Thanks for your reply.

Progress (or not really, but I've tried things):
I have now tried them both. I programmed the chip, read back the contents and verified that the programmed file and the read back file were identical.
I still get the same symptoms:
No image on screen.
LED Blinks "Invalid memory": 2 red, 5 white
If I remove the RAM I get "No memory or RAM detected": 2 red, 3 white.
Since I'm running the motherboard out of the chassis, I don't have the CMOS battery plugged in - Is that a problem?

I think next...

Your answer gives me a bit of hope

I see that I left out that important piece of information: When booting, the screen is black, nothing shows on screen.
It seems that I don't know enough about BIOSes these days. I don't have a backup since the BIOS update failed, I assumed the BIOS on chip was corrupt and went straight to reddit. Perhaps this was a mistake.
What should my next steps be to get things running again?
I found a thread with a BIOS file on this forum: Dell...

• Dell G5 SE 5505 - "Invalid memory installed" after BIOS update.

Hello!

I have a problem with a Dell G5 SE 5505 laptop that I hope someone can give me a few pointers on.
[OK, it's not really a laptop, I'm running the motherboard on my desktop with only cooling, RAM and an M2 drive attached.]
I had some performance issues, so I decided to update my BIOS from 1.7.0 to the latest version, 1.20.0.
The computer restarted and the update dit not want to continue without a battery connected, even though I used dell's method of bypassing this requirement.
I tried updating to a custom BIOS from Reddit user Satori_Nori https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptopMod/comments/1765ysp/dell_g5_5505_custom_bios/...

• Hello everyone!

My name is Lalle and I'm an electronics engineer that has been working with industrial systems, automotive, functional safety and a little bit of embedded for the last 10 years.
I've always had an interest in fixing electronics and salvaging other people's garbage.
I found this forum while googling some fixes for a laptop I'm currently trying to get running for my kid to play old school games on.
I'm usually not much for posting, and prefer to just lurk in the shadows
