Re: Amprobe lCR55A Advice
I didnt either, thats why I was wondering does it serve a purpose still, handy to have along with and esr meter or is it considered outdated, not really needed if I bought the first one?

Amprobe lCR55A Advice
Think I decided on purchasing this unit (Unless there is an equivalent or better kit form that I can find. No case is not an issue.)
http://m.ebay.com/itm/182321753067?_mwBanner=1
However a buddy at work hasan Amprobe LCR55A that he is making me one heck of a deal on. I don't exactly understand if this particular unit is also capable of checking ESR and was looking for some feedback about that? Also if there is recommended specifications for this meter as far as accuracy and that type of thing goes. I don't mind buying both units if I need to I actually...

Re: ESR Meter
How about a recommendation for one in kit form? I'm in the immediate market for one of those.

Re: Vizio Plasma (VP422) Random shutoffs.
ok, I cleaned up a bunch of them but still having the issue. After working with it more I've found that it is a much more consistent shutdown right at about one minute. This sounds to me like a protection shutdown but I'm not finding any information about that.

Vizio Plasma (VP422) Random shutoffs.
Evening everyone.
Have a Vizio VP422 Plasma that will randomly shutoff to standby randomly agter being on for 2-15mins. When it does this i just press power button and it will turn back on for another 2-15mins. Dosnt seem to matter what input its on although it seems the longer its been powered on the quicker it'll shutdown but thats not set in stone.
I have cleaned and reset all connectors plus performend a thourough visual inspection and see nothng.
It does have a couple of verticle lines which i suspect is from a failing screen but it would work...

Tips or tricks to identify cracked LCD panels on dead units?
Tips or tricks to identify cracked LCD panels on dead units?
Anyone have any tips on spotting cracked LCD panels on units that wont power up?
I recently bought a lot of a couple dozen flat screens and discovered there were more cracked displays then I was originally able to see, which is ok, I am still money ahead.
Now I have a handful of units sitting here that are dead due to power supply or mainboard issues. Starting to second guess myself weather to sink the money into them for replacement parts only to find out I have more cracked panels. ...

Any neat tips or tricks for finding cracked LCD's when the backlights wont turn on.
Any neat tips or tricks for finding cracked LCD's when the backlights wont turn on/wont power up/power isnt available.
Ive been trying to visually inspect the screens closely under good lighting, at different angels, using a flashlight, but still seem to miss some that are cracked.
Just wondering if anyone has any neat tricks or tips to detect cracked or damaged LCD's when the units wont power up or lets say when power isnt available.

RCA LED No Video, Back-lights on and audio works. LED40C45RQ
Afternoon everyone!
Had a friend call me over to look at her flat-screen that just suddenly lost all video display while she was watching a movie. The back-lights will turn on and stay on. I couldn't verify audio but she said it continued to work. The remote works and I get a red standby led when TV is off.
Found no bulging caps or any burnt components after a careful examination close up. I checked voltages from power supply and they are very close to spec while powered on. (Sorry I forgot my notes back at the office with exact readings).
I confirmed...

Sounds like a very useful website but the links are dead. Is it still accessible somewhere?

Re: Technical Documentation of Dell Bios Boot Process: Stuck Inspiron E1705
Sorry guy's. Just want to clarify that my primary goal with this post is to find information and learn about the inner workings/behind the scenes operations of the specific dell bios in question. I've already narrowed it down to a motherboard problem and want to dig deeper into the problem with the board itself. An understanding of what's going on within the bios during the boot process will help greatly. Can't screw it up any more than it already is.
Is there a specific trick to updating/reflashing...

Re: Technical Documentation of Dell Bios Boot Process: Stuck Inspiron E1705
Thanks for the reply's
As mentioned in my first post I've tried all of those suggestions. "Swapped motherboards between working and bad laptops" which included the Ac Adapter, RAM, 3 different GPU's, etc... In fact all components from bad system were tested good and working on good laptop.
Unless I'm blind I don't see the battery on the top of the board. Might pull it back out of case in a little while and check bottom side but I'm pretty sure I would have disconnected...

Technical Documentation of Dell Bios Boot Process: Stuck Inspiron E1705
Afternoon All!
My question is specifically: Does anyone know where I can find technical documentation on the process of the Dell Bios during boot up?
I've been kicking around an Inspiron E1705 laptop for more than a year now that I keep meaning to get to. It seems everytime I get started on it something else comes up and I get distracted. This unit will power up but hangs at the dell logo. The progress indicator bar always stops at a 1/3 of the way and then it just sits there. It hangs before any options appear to enter bios, select boot device, etc...

Re: Toshiba 50hp66 Plasma - Removed 2 shorted Y-Buffer Fet's and Display starts worki
I did order in the FDB52N20 replacements and performed the operation. The set worked great for a day or two and then presented some other problems before dying again and getting pushed to the back of the project list. I honestly just haven't had time to get back to it but hope to do so soon.

Re: Proscan 40LD45Q Power Supply not turning back lights on, no HV fault present.
Not yet unfortunately
I did replace the balancer board and that had no change of the issue. I suspect that one of the transformers on the power supply is weak and plan to replace the power supply next. I really hate swap testing components like this but after spending A LOT of time researching the issue I just keep hitting a brick wall for information. Just not sure what to think at the moment.
Waiting on some extra money to order one at this time.

Re: Dell Inspiron 15 LED - Intermittent back-light failure?!?!? (Scratching my head)
Well, after fiddling with it for about 20 minutes the backlight mysteriously started working again. My gut is telling me it was something to do with the cable going to the LED's from the board mounted on the screen.
I documented the pinouts and voltages for the power and control coming from the motherboard under normal working circumstances....and it's been working fine for several hours now. Going to let it run for a few more hours and then probably reassemble the screen and check...

Re: Dell Inspiron 15 LED - Intermittent back-light failure?!?!? (Scratching my head)
Gotchya! I pulled my assembly apart to access the board while powered up and now I can't get backlight to come on at all. Had a millisecond flicker at one point. I'm reading horror stories of people having this type of issue on these but not able to isolate the issue. screen, cable, mainboard, etc...
I do have a hot air rework station so not worried about that part, also just picked up the schematic on the unit. Will be tracking this down more in the next day but I am still green...
