    Toshiba L650 power problem

    Greeting to everyone!
I have a Toshiba L650 that works perfectly good on battery, but does neither charge nor work on external power. I have attached the schematic of the power supply part of the board, so I cut to the chase.
After some experiments I probably destroyed the charging chip (MAX17435ETG+) but it still works the same (even with the IC removed).

I get 19v to the Drain of Q6002 (with adapter on but battery removed) but only 3v on the Source and nothing to the gate (same as before destroying the IC).
With battery on, I get 12v on the source (probably because it's connected with Q6005 Source) and I have already replaced it althought it measured normal (just multimeter).

The question might sound stupid after all this intro...
I want to make the laptop work on the adapter. If I remove U6000 (the destroyed MAX17435ETG+), Q6002 and Q6005 and then short Q6002's source and drain, will it work without frying anything?

    Thanks in advance!

I have read this post, in fact, I have replaced a couple of proadlizers with capacitors successfuly, but it is irrelevant with my question.

I never tryed it, but it should work. However do it at your own responsibility!

At the end it didn't work. I'm still trying to figure out a way to make this thing usable again.
          Thanks for your answers!

Did you try to replace the U6000? Did you test MOSFETs Q6000, Q6001, Q6002 and Q6005? Test D6000 and try to bridge D6005.

                Re: Toshiba L650 power problem

                Hello,

My Toshiba L655 has been the same problem (not battery charging).

After replacement of the U6000 (MAX17435) the problem is fixed
I found the fault by measurement of the ref value of the U6000.
The output was at 0V !
And without the battery and the ac adapter plugin the U6000 was very hot !
For me the DCIN input that produce DC internal voltage and ref value was damaged.

                Thanks for your feedback
                Regards
                Laurent

hi, i have the sam problem. (i have only orangle blinking LED for battery low) no power when plug in adapter, i order U6000 (MAX17435) hope it will solve the problem. How did you test the U6000?

                    Plug AC adaptor ON.

Check U6000 PIN 10 ACOK = 0V this detect if AC adapter is ON.

                    Check L6000 = 12V. Charging voltage.

If those works U6000 probably works too.

If you use Battery +VBAT is 12V cause Battery has 12V.

                      hi, i measure the value of U6000 ACOK = 5.34V, and L6000 = 3.44V

I measure this value's too on a L650 Thosiba which won't charge battery anymore (works with new battery from ebay) and doenst work with AC adapter only.

Can I now conclude the U6000 chip is damaged?

No, just AC Adapter not detected.

Measure PIN 19 ACIN this is pin which detect AC Adapter.

                            Symptoms:

                            Measurements:
                            U6000:
                            ACOK (PIN 10) = 5.34V,
                            ACIN (PIN 19) = 1.69V

                            L6000 = 3.44V

                              L6000 = 3.44V
ACIN PIN19 1.69V indicate at there is AC Adapter inserted.

                              If ACIN PIN19 > 1.485V then ACOK = 0V.

ACOK PIN10 5.34V means at AC Adapter NOT detected.

If other voltages are OK, then U6000 may be FAILED.

I want to buy this one as a replacement:

                                    Ebay Link

Is this one good to go? The number on the chip is slightly different from the one thats on the L650.

                                    Ebay: 17435ETG239ITBS+
                                    Motherboard: 17435ETG023ITAO+

What is the easiest way to replace with low cost/home made equipment? I don't have any professional SMD tools

I replace one of these, you need IR soldering machine or you could try with hot air gun, but set ti to slow air flow

This are the voltages i get:

                                        PIN 1 = 0V
                                        PIN 2 = 0V
                                        PIN 3 = 19V
                                        PIN 4 = 5.43V
                                        PIN 5 = 0V
                                        PIN 6 = 1.7V
                                        PIN 7 = 8.7V
                                        PIN 8 = 3.6V
                                        PIN 9 = 3.7V
                                        PIN 10 = 5.4V
                                        PIN 11 = 3.6V
                                        PIN 12 = 3.6V
                                        PIN 13 = 3.6V
                                        PIN 14 = 0V
                                        PIN 15 = 3.6V
                                        PIN 16 = 3.6V
                                        PIN 17 = 0V
                                        PIN 18 = 0V
                                        PIN 19 = 1.7V
                                        PIN 20 = 5.4V
                                        PIN 21 = 4V
                                        PIN 22 = 5.4V
                                        PIN 23 = 0V
                                        PIN 24 = 0V

Can someone confirm if they are correct? (i suspect not)

                                        Thanks in advance.
