    HP pavilion dv9000 voltages

Hi again. laptop is Intel version with nvidia graphic
This laptop on start show picture for second or two, black screen with line strange signs like A0 or 8,9 and then picture disappears. So I do reball of Nvidia chip, but now no picture at all.

So I must measured voltages on board, but I don know where.

I measured Ω on coils and some capacitors (- on ground and + on + on capacitor) on some capacitor show me result on both sides + and -) Is that capacitor dead ?

    Thanks.

Can you clarify what you mean in great detail when you wrote "So I do reball of Nvidia chip"?

Odds are, the northbridge went out and still isn't fixed. It is not only the solder balls on the bottom of the PCB substrate under the core that are the issue, it is also the core-substrate connection.

I did reball on nvidia graphic chip, desolder, clean chip and mboard, attach new leaded solder balls on chip and solder chip back to mboard.

Laptop power on but not show any picture on screen (before show line of strange sings like defected AB89 etc) I lift ram for graphic and reball them too, but no changes.

More than likely the extra thermal cycle (read: stress) of the reball pushed the GPU into its grave. Either that or the reball went badly. I've had to re-do some in the past after looking like I had a clean reball the 1st go-round. IF you can find out the correct way to measure for a bad GPU I would love to know. This question has been asked countless times on other forums and no one has a clue. Of course, people have figured out ways to measure for X-Box GPU's so I'm sure it's possible here..

It has to be something with JTAG, but i don't have anything to test it atm... My dv9000 is still alive. When i get a new one i'll go crazy on it and measure stuff for you.

Hi. I use multimeter set on Ω and black wire on marked on picture, with red vire I tested some elements capacitors and coils and on some capacitors I got reading on both sides + and - on other capacitors I got reading only on - side.

It is possible that these defective capacitors ? Or got reading just because they are soldered to the motherboard ?

            Thankyou.

Hi. I think this board has problem with processor, maybe is processor bad, but this Intel processors almost never fail, so I think that is something next to the processor, because is no heated at all between 20 minutes operation, north and south bridge's are heated app. 50°c same is on Nvidia graphic chip.

              What could this be ?

Another thing. Is possible to change G86-730-A2 with G86-740-A2 nvidia chip ? In this moment I have just new G86-740-A2.

                Is someone try this ?

To be honest after a several tries at a number DV9600 gpu deaths, and
The time cost factor, I just spend 60 squibs and
Replace the MB .....cant see the financial benefit of faffing about with them !

The problem of course is that the 60 squib motherboard you purchased is a reworked board itself. You'll get 3 to 6 months out of it then be back to square one. Its a sad reality but people are making a killing off of these ebay boards. I would only purchase one that had been reballed but there is no way to verify this before purchase so you would be taking the sellers word. Not to plug my shop or anything but I've always offered $60 reballs for these boards. It's a much better option than taking a chance on something else.
