    USB replacement gone wrong

Hi I am new to motherboard repair so please bare with me. I had a laptop in for replacement USB ports. It was an Acer aspire 5332 i think. I ordered in the new 10mm USB ports removed the old ones popped in the new ones booted up laptop. I inserted a USB key and the laptop shuts down. I decide to remove the 8 leg ic at the USB ports with one off another board and laptop does not power on at all. I remove this ic completely having no 8 legged ic and laptop powers on but obviously I have no power to USB. I do some more research and find out if I run a wire from 5v which I find from an inductor I think it's called to the power pin on USB port it should power USB. When I do this laptop will not turn on. I remove wire laptop boots. So basically laptop will not power when 5v is going to USB ports. I rang customer and she said the laptop was powering off when they inserted USB devices also but the ports where completely damaged and that's why i decided to replace them. Anyone any ideas i will post pictures soon.

The 5v is shorted at the USB. I know this is obvious but it's probably where you soldered the new USB back to the board. Can you post pictures of the usb connector? Also, make sure any of the other USB ports don't have one of the pins bent inside and shorting out against the outer shielding. If they broke one.. they very well could have broken others.
