    dv1000 no turn on

    Hello All

Any suggestions? I have a dv1000 that has power into it. The light on the front of the case that shows the AC adapter is plugged in lights eliminating the DC in jack as the problem. If I don't plug in the battery the ac in light flashes 3 times and is solid when the battery is hooked up. Pressing the power button doesn't give any signs of life. I stripped it down to the bare motherboard, hooked up the battery and nothing leading me to the belief it is a fault in the motherboard. Searching the internet I found plenty of this particular problem. No solutions did I find.

On a different note I did fix a heating problem on my Satellite Pro, The fan was always running at medium and kept going to full speed. Arctic silvering the CPU and making sure the heat-sink clean was no help. So I ordered what Toshiba calls a fin, I call it the heat-sink BTW, and a new thermal pad and the Toshiba Pink grease. Now it runs quiet and barely lukewarm air from the heat-sink.

Anyway All else is good on the dv1000 so I'd like to revive it if it can be done economically as it is no high power ball of fire whereas the Toshiba is decent dual core Intel powered and was worth a expenditure.

    Thanks for any help
    RT

Check PQ154 transistor along with PR7 resistor.

Great, Now all I have to do is find them, it has been a while since I had to read a schematic.

      Thanks

Kind of a shame as I used to think of HP as a good computer.

Every laptop got some weak points... DV6000/9000 got problems with GPU , some T43 series got also problem with GPU (especially Intel series) or North/South bridge, Compaq C300 series got problem with Mosfet power transistor , HP NX5000/NC6000 got problems with MAX IC on power source or southbridge... If you buying new one you never know what is weak inside.

as for the thinkpads.. the whole T4x series is problematic. most of them have north/southbridge problems due to flexing..
kind of a shame, cause they're great workhorses otherwise..

True, I knew about the nc6000, easy fix so I grabbed a few nc6220 figuring same thing. Silly me totally different animal.
I ordered a motherboard from Toshiba for my Celeron powered laptop, $180 + S&H, then when it was working fine I traded it for a slightly older dual core that had a new under warranty replaced motherboard. They were happy as mine was clean. I had to get a new Keyboard, & what Toshiba calls a Fin (Think Heatsink assembly), Thermal pad & I used the Toshiba pink grease on the CPU, I don't name them, that's what Toshiba calls them. As it was running the fan loudly even though the air coming out wasn't more than lukewarm. The heatpipe most likely failed. That cost me $28 + S&H and is much faster then the my old newer one. I'm lucky that I can some some parts through work at cost.

We have some of those sitting around at work and my understanding is that it is the ATI GPU coming loose from the motherboard is the problem.
