Re: MSI P65 Creator 9SE not booting after repair attempt
You bet it is an exeption, it's an very expensive laptop and in mind condition.
I have search around and a used mainboard is about $500 to $600 and even then you don't know what you get, a new mainboard is $1200 !Regards, GeertComment

Re: MSI P65 Creator 9SE not booting after repair attempt
If you want to game, get a tower. The biggest issue with gaming laptops is heat dissipation. They use the same CPU/GPU's that a tower would use, but with substantially less thermals.
There's a reason heatsinks have fins. It's to maximise the surface area for convection, and this requires airflow to remove the hot air out of the chassis. So when you get dust blocking the fan/fins, this reduces the thermal efficiency and the chips get way hotter. They pull more amps at the higher temps, and the MOSFET's then fail. Resulting in dead silicon, and a new motherboard, since lets face it, where are you getting CPU/GPU replacements from. Towers get away with dust, because the thermals are way bigger.
Just a waste of money all ways round.Comment

Re: MSI P65 Creator 9SE not booting after repair attempt
I have a question about the GPU VRM controller uP9512Q
If the IC got 5v on Pin-10 (5VCC) and 19v on pin-21 (VINMON) does it produce 2v out at Pin-17 (REFOUT) or does it first have to have the Enable on Pin-30 to have the 2v reference output working ?
I include a typical application circuit of the uP9512Q

Re: MSI P65 Creator 9SE not booting after repair attempt
Hello, I know that in time but you were able to solve the problem, the same thing happens to me with the same driver that does not activate the vccore sources. The vr_svid_alert# pin 44 of the isl95855c driver is at 0, I changed the drmos but there was no change, you were able to solveComment

I was not able to solve, however I still have te board here and when I have the time I will look into it again as I don't believe the CPU is really dead.
The reason I say this is that I was having the board running with all voltages available for about 20 to 30 seconds.
I have replaced the board with the same mainboard number but it was a GS65 Stealth version not the P65 Creator SE.
I also have made some notes of voltages of the replacement board and could be interesting for future investigations ;-)
I have had to move over a transistor and keyboard backlight connector and update the EC firmware to get the keyboard light working.Regards, GeertComment

Re: MSI P65 Creator 9SE not booting after repair attempt
on't think the CPU on my board is shorted either, it was the same sic631 fault and I injected voltage into that 1v coil and there is no short, the voltage does not go down in theory if it had caused a short the drmos would have damaged the part of the cpu that powers that source I mean that when it detects voltage it should drop if it were shorted the vr_svid_alert# signal is sent by the isl95855 I have not found a block diagram of this ic to see what signals it needs to give the svid_alert at a high level if you find something new Please let me know and thank you for responding despite the time of your publication.Comment

For SVID communication you need at least all previous basic requirements met. For the VRM Controller they are the input voltages (VIN, VCC, etc) and enables at least. And of course, SVID Clock and SVID Data.
For the CPU, the same. All required signals and prower rails regarding the power up sequence have to be present.
However, even if you replace all parts in question (except the CPU) you can't do anything if the CPU simply doesn't request voltage via the SVID anymore. And this is most often the case.Last edited by Sephir0th; 09-10-2023, 01:11 AM.Comment
