    Franklin Electric Submersible Well Pump

So... I moved into this house last July, and with it came a Franklin Electric submersible pump (3/4HP 240VAC) in the well. Everything was fine until today, when I went to flush the toilet and it didn't refill. I went downstairs to find the pressure tank reading 0 PSI. A bit of testing led me to find out that power was getting to the pump, but it was just buzzing and not running. I took a look at the starter unit, and sure enough, the start cap's rubber vent plug was bulging. I went to the store and picked up a new starter unit (they didn't have just the cap, and I needed water NOW), installed it, turned on the power, and sure enough, I heard the hum of the pump, followed by the pressure gauge climbing. I just took a shower with it, and it still seems to be working. The old cap was a "B.M.I." 86-120uF 230V. No idea what the new one is (it's surrounded by plastic). Maybe it's made by TaiwanBreakDownComponents company (I would hope not!).

Do you have a picture of the original capacitor?
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

I got some pictures. Turns out that my camera is terrible for anything more than a few inches away, but does okay up close.

hmmm... the only time i have seen a start cap do that was when the motor was starting and stopping to often(short cycling) or unable to start as fast as it should, both of which could be caused by a great number of things.

This motor has to do that, unfortunately. I'm fine with replacing the cap every few years. This one was from 2005, and it lasted until 2013. That's good enough for me. On the other hand, do you think that two 50uF 370V run caps in parallel (in an external enclosure or something) would work better? TEMCo says that it should, and they would last longer too. (Also, are TEMCo motor caps any good?)

Not sure on the 2 run caps, i have not seen probleme with TEMco before. But this fourm is built for replacing(as the name states)badcaps(usualy bad elect. Formula!)

ZD-915 vacuum pump motor mount service alert
                  by sam_sam_sam
If you have this Desoldering Gun Station there is something you should be aware of the two screws that hold the motor to mounting for pump can come loose and make raddling noise

One note this unit has been repaired already once because of switching power supply regulator ic chip failure
Now this with the vacuum motor mounting issue yes I give this Desoldering station a very hard work out and use about every weekend to do some type of project

The fix is taking the vacuum pump assembly out and take the metal cover off and you will see the two screws on it

                  Remote pump control ideas.
                  by Dannyx
Good day folks. A task was given to me to redesign the control system for a pump system in a remote location. The idea is that there's a tank which has a float or some sort of switch/sensor to detect when it's full/empty and this runs some pumps accordingly. The trouble is the pump and the tank are like 4km apart, from what the chap who inspected them on our behalf told me, so the way this currently works is by using some unknown boards based on SIM cards (see the pictures). From what I can assume, when a contact closes at the "client side" (the tank), it calls up the "server side"...
