I have an OptiPlex 7080 Small Form Factor with the service tag 9NDV053. However, the fan doesn't spin when starting up, and the System diagnostic lights show Amber 2, White 1. According to the Service Manual, this indicates a CPU failure. But replacing the CPU didn't solve the issue, and flashing the BIOS copied from another computer results in the same error code.
I'm reaching out to this knowledgeable community for guidance. Could this issue stem from a corrupted BIOS, or is it likely another hardware failure? I've exhausted my troubleshooting toolkit—even using a chip clip to transplant the BIOS from a working i5 7080—but the system remains unresponsive.Attached FilesComment

Hello,
I have a Dell OptiPlex 7080 Micro with a suspected corrupt BIOS. Symptoms are no POST - 3 amber 6 white lights: SBIOS Flash corruption. I have a backup taken with a CH341a. I have flashed a known working BIOS onto the machine and that fixed it - but the computer is stuck in manufacturing mode and will not save the service tag, error code 8AC6D992.
Is there anyone knowledgeable who could take a look at my bricked BIOS, or alternatively add my service tag to the working BIOS to get it out of manufacturing mode? I am learning as I go but without being able to compare bad vs. good files and the edits made I am struggling.
The service tag is 6KWPX53.
Thank you!Comment

Thank you!- Opened the broken BIOS .bin in UEFI Tool. It threw an error that one of the volumes in the BIOS region fails to decompress. This was the only indication of a problem I could see, so that's where I focused my efforts.
- I had to work out what version of BIOS the broken .bin is - in my case I had to go by Intel ME version, which UEFI Tool can display in the top right when selecting the ME volume. This way I worked out that my BIOS version was the very first one released.
- Downloaded the .rcv of that BIOS from the Dell website, decompressed it using BIOS Utilities to get all the volumes, including the BIOS region, out.
- Used UEFI Tool 0.28.0 to replace the entire BIOS region of the broken BIOS .bin with the one I just extracted from the .rcv-file.
- Copied over the NVRAM and EFI volumes from the old BIOS region, since they seemed to contain things like the Service Tag, model number etc. (There is also a GbE volume that houses the MAC-address for the unit, but that is not in the BIOS region.)
- Saved and flashed the image onto the system with my CH341a and presto - fixed.

So I was able to fix my unit in the end, and for anyone stumbling across this with a similar issue - the service tag is not stored in the BIOS region. I have no idea where it hides, probably encrypted in one of the other parts of the UEFI? It also seems that 10th-gen Intel processors are more prone to just being stubborn about not saving the service tag when flashed with another BIOS from what I read online? Anyway. Also, it seems important to work with the same version BIOS when transplanting volumes around. In my case, I had the very first version released for the OptiPlex 7080 and was attempting to flash parts from a much later BIOS. Generally, I think just flashing in a copy from another machine isn't the best strategy, trying to fix the original BIOS is. Here is how I fixed mine:- Opened the broken BIOS .bin in UEFI Tool. It threw an error that one of the volumes in the BIOS region fails to decompress. This was the only indication of a problem I could see, so that's where I focused my efforts.

by mrrubikHi folks,
I got a Dell Optiplex 7010 micro PC (Exact Model) with 8FC8 BIOS and locked out admin password. I attempted to remove the password by patching the BIOS via info from this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...ssword-patcher
After flashing the patched the BIOS, the PC is unresponsive with a solid AMBER power LED (not documented in manual anywhere)
Steps I took:- Read BIOS with CH341a, verified hash twice
