    Dell Dimension C521 motherboard

Need to replace several bad caps and possibly some seemingly good ones of the same series as preventative maintenance, but let me know if I'm just being paranoid. Very much open to replacing all or some with polymers but not sure what values to go with.

Bad caps are all 6.3v 1800uF (5x Rubycon MCZ + 1x Chemicon KZJ).

There's a row of clean 6.3v 820uF KZJ caps above the RAM slots and 2x 16V 680uF MCZ on the corner closest to the CPU fan.

Knowing this has a garbage Nvidia northbridge affected by bumpgate I wouldn't invest too much into it. At the very least if it's still working keep it well cooled.

Good to know. What's the best series to replace the bad caps with at least? I was looking at Nichicon HN to replace the KZJ but my understanding is the MCZ should only be replaced with polymers.

I forgot to mention sizes. The blown MCZ are 8x20mm and the KZJ are 10x16.

It seems the Nichicon HN series has been declared obsolete and I could only find a replacement for the 8mm MCZ caps. Had to dig through the BadCaps forum because Mouser hides it from search!

        https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/647-UHN0J182MPD6TD

I can get cheap Würth Elektronik polys to replace both size caps. Same voltage and ESR, higher ripple. Capacitance is a little off, the 8mm being only 1200uF but for the 10mm I have a choice between 1500uF or 2000uF.

For solid polymer caps you'd typically use lower capacitance anyway.
For liquid electrolytics I like Rubycon ZLH, but other good low-ESR caps will most likely work fine.
Other people may have a different opinion but in my experience getting the exact same specs doesn't matter that much.
I don't have every single specs in stock so I use whatever similar cap I have and it hasn't been a problem yet. Solid polymer or decent low-ESR liquid electrolytics at least though.

I went with Würth and it works great. Just re-capped a second identical board and it won't boot if I install the RAM in pairs. Gives the beep code for memory failure but it works in separate channels.

I probably damaged the board fighting with this awful unleaded solder. Is there an easy way to test with a multimeter or should I just get another board? Maybe there's a less bad one that fits the same case...

9th Gen Dell Optiplex Micro PC motherboard repair: Short Circuit?
              by Geeker007
Hi All, I have a 9th Gen Dell Optiplex micro PC motherboard which doesn't power on. When I connect the motherboard with power adapter, it goes into safe mode and turns off. So from info I have gathered online, it looks like there is a short circuit on the motherboard. So can you guys help me with figuring out the issue?

I am new to electronics repair, so my queries could be naive but I am ready to learn.

So I have a multimeter and a solder with me. But I can try to get a variable voltage power supply with a thermal camera as well. From what I seen online, best way is...

Dell Latitude 5350 Ultra 7 Motherboard
              by Julian Bailey
              Hi

I have a Dell Latitude 5350 Ultra 7 Motherboard I am trying to repair that has a blown chip.

The chip is marked as eHOLH similar to the one I have pictured.

Any ideas what it does and what the pin outs are as 3 tracks have gone and need to find out what / where they went / did etc.

Dell PN of the motherboard is 08DCGW.

Below is the area I am trying to repair:

Does anyone have a picture of this motherboard in this area they could take and upload?

              Cheers...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
              by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Need Advice On Which Caps To Buy For Dell Dimension 8300 Motherboard
              by TMTGTR
              The Symptom:

I own a Dell Dimension 8300 motherboard that will post and get to the black (XP pro 32bit) “We're Sorry Windows did not load” Screen.

When restarting any option i.e. “Normal” “Safe Mode” etc. Computer re-boots to same screen. I checked RAM with memtest –OK Checked O/S Drive with Victoria -OK

              Upon Inspection:

I did a physical examination and see that the 6 caps by the CPU are all bulging in various degrees. (See Pics Below).

I found a YouTube vid with a guy who replaced these 6 caps and the computer works fine....
