    Asus M2A-VM HDMI recap

    Hi,
I picked this up cheap due to prior owner having problems with video going nuts after it warmed up. As suspected, it has 6.3v 820uf KZG with all those around the pci-e slot swollen as well as two by the power connection.

I can get the same specs in the following:

    Panasonic FM (8mm x 15mm)
    Sanyo OSCON WX (8mm x 12mm)
    Samxon GC (8mm x 12mm)
    Rubycon MCZ (8mm x 12mm)

I am leaning toward the Sanyo if they will be compatible in this situation. I would welcome thoughts from you on suitability and such .

    Thanks, guys,
    Bill

I forgot another question I had. What would be a suitable replacement if I went up a step on these. They are all clear of cards and such there is no problem there.

    Thanks again,
    Bill

I would be going with the rubycons or samxon. Sanyo WX are not OS-CON, so I don't know which series you have there. OS-CON are sanyo's polymer capacitors, WX and WG are electrolytics. Panny FM are a slight downgrade from KZG in terms of ESR and ripple tolerance.

One other thing, replace all Chemi-con KZG, even if they are not bulging, since they will often fail with no visible signs.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Sorry, the OSCON was a brain slip as I had been reading Topcat's report on the SuperDell GX620 full polymer mod. I figured on replacing all the KZG even though the bulged ones were found only in the high heat areas on the mobo.

I assume the Sanyo WX (ME820WX) series lytics are not suitable. I had hopes because I can actually get them and they were the same size.

I have tried to find Panasonic FJ or FL and have had no luck. The only ones that I found at Digi-Key in the right values were the FM.

After reading Topcat's report I was wondering I could likewise use 560uf 4v polymers to replace the KZG caps. I have some 560uf 4v Sanyo OSCON SP series and could get some additional ones from an audio dealer. OR would there be problems running electrolytics and polumers on the board. I have seen some boards with both but I don't know if they have to be balanced as far as values.

What would happen if same value (6.3v 820uf) polymers were used to replace the KZG.

        Thanks for your time,
        Bill

Sanyo WX is slightly lower spec than UCC KZG, however they would likely still work fine in this application
