  • Re: Sorry for dumb question. Capacitor size.

Many thanks or maraming salamat as we say here. I am sorry, I meant to say all caps in question are polymers. I will go ahead and replace them and post the results I really hope they are cause of the weird memory problems on the board. It is the Sniper A88X I have posted about. Again my appreciation for the help and patience.

  • Re: Reflow for PowerColor R7 260X 2gb?

I apologize for the poor image, it's hard to hold card, magnifier, and push buttons. Hope fully you can see the suspicious looking solder points. It looks as if the pins corroded and separated slightly from the solder. Considering nearly all of them look this way, I really think it has something to do with the gradual degrading of the card's output. I was hoping that by reflowing the solder, it might clear some of the corrosion and improve the contact.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or suggestions.

  • Re: Sorry for dumb question. Capacitor size.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. They would not be very elevated, probably less than 3mm. On a follow-up note. I have a Sniper A88X board with two bad polymers 560uf 6.3v. Would it be safe to use the 680uf 6.3v caps to replace them? I ask because anything I order ships from the States at very high standard charge. A lot of 10 caps cost under 300 php (Philippine piso) ship at a cost of 800 php. (That is $6 dollars worth of caps cost $17 dollars in shipping)

    Have a good one,
    Bill

  • Reflow for PowerColor R7 260X 2gb?

Has anyone tried reflow on this graphics card? We have problems with corrosion here and a lot of the solder points look suspicious to me. The capacitor pins look like they are sitting in craters, the board solder looks almost detached.

The card had been going downhill since I bought the system. HDMI worked for over 8 months then quit but found that DVI still worked so used that with a vga adapter for another 6 months of so. Then card would power up but no video output from anything.

I was going through various postponed projects when I did the inspection on the...

  • Re: Bad aluminum poly cap on Gigabyte mobo

I hope this thread is not too old. Uranium-235 suggested either FP-6R3RE151M-NS or RNS0J151MDN1 as replacement for my bad APAQ 6R3AR5K101M06X5C. THe biggest difference being they are 150uf instead of 100uf. Would they be okay to use? on the Gigabyte board. Only other suggestions from component sites were $$ plus shipping $$ to Philippines.

    Thanks folks.

  • Capacitor sources in Asia.

Are there companies that actually stock items IN Asia? I contacted I asked RJ Components in Philippines if they had an item available. I got the "it's on hand in stock" assurance. After I got my order confirmation it showed that "in stock" to them meant setting in storage in Great Britain! I checked Mouser, Digikey, and others and found that they also consider items setting in the US or Britain as being "in stock".

I received my shipment two weeks after ordering.

So, are there ANY companies or retailers that actually keep stock...

  • Re: Black screen on G1 Sniper A88X

Well, the Sniper of death continues to drive me crazy. Again after seeming to function it reverted to ???? mode. I did find something when I inspected everything again. The capacitors immediately above the A88X chipset looked odd. When magnified, I could see tiny holes and rivulet stains running down side of the capacitor. Could these caps be causing the weird memory behavior?

I have not been out of the house since March because on top of normal quarantine, I am restricted due to age.

  • Sorry for dumb question. Capacitor size.

I have new 680uf 6.3v capacitors. The problem is they are larger in physical size than what I had ordered. Can they still be used if I can fit them in? If i need to leave them raised slightly will it cause problems? Thanks!

  • Bad aluminum poly cap on Gigabyte mobo

The video quit on a GA-F2A55M-DS2, on-board and dedicated card. Power reaches the fans and lights. I checked for obvious problems and found one capacitor that felt loose, it also sat higher than the ones around it. Looking though loupe I noticed what looked like a crack. Given the location of the cap I think it may be the reason for the video problem. I have tried locating a replacement with no success, even using DigiKey chat. The first photo shows the cap markings. Second photo show how it is raised from board and the apparent crack.

Any suggestions on a replacement for the cap?...

  • Re: Black screen on G1 Sniper A88X

    Well,
THings have taken a weird turn. I took my wife's Toshiba netbook in because it would power on but not boot. The guys at the shop were great. We both suspected the ram was bad. He put in a test stick and bang it booted. Then he said "wait a minute". He cleaned my ram and reinstalled it. Booted fine. Corrosion due to the climate here, suspect you may get the same in España. Anyway, I got to thinking so I pulled out the Sniper and cleaned the ram. Put a stick in the "DDR 1" slot. Nothing. Tried "DDR 2", booted...

Thanks for the lead. I have watched a couple of videos on replacing the caps and it looks straightforward. I am hesitant to try it right now though with the grandkids inside because the quarantine.
    Again thanks, guys.

  • Toshiba 24HV10E white spot on screen

    Okay,
Since we are in lockdown (excuse me "Enhance Quarantine") here in Luzon Philippines I am trying to keep busy by troubleshooting things. This Toshiba was working fine last month when I sat it aside. Now it has a what area in upper right corner. It looks like a pressure spot to me but it was stored upright without anything touching it. Ignore the green blur in the photo, its the reflection of the laptop screen. I had to use the webcam. The crystalline appearance of the white spot is actual. It is transparent and video is well visible behind it but it is annoying

  • Re: Black screen on G1 Sniper A88X

I saw a video regarding the Northbridge problems. You may be onto something there. The video showed how to reflow the chip using a heat gun or rework station. I may try that if pressing it gives any imprevement. Many thanks. Keep safe there in España,

  • Black screen on G1 Sniper A88X

THis board was bought used along with A10 7700K, 16gb of Kingston ram, and Sapphire HD6850 from the IT manager at my college.

Installed in case with CoolerMaster 600 Elite ps.

Booted fine but only 8gb of ram report as active though all identified. I removed the two sticks that did not show as active.

Machine ran fine for about 2 months then started random shut downs. CPU temp was near 70 F under load. Let it cool then tried to reboot. I had to move the ram to the opposite channel slots before it would boot but then worked fine. About two weeks later shut...

  • Re: Asus M2A-VM HDMI recap

Sorry, the OSCON was a brain slip as I had been reading Topcat's report on the SuperDell GX620 full polymer mod. I figured on replacing all the KZG even though the bulged ones were found only in the high heat areas on the mobo.

I assume the Sanyo WX (ME820WX) series lytics are not suitable. I had hopes because I can actually get them and they were the same size.

I have tried to find Panasonic FJ or FL and have had no luck. The only ones that I found at Digi-Key in the right values were the FM.

    After reading...

I forgot another question I had. What would be a suitable replacement if I went up a step on these. They are all clear of cards and such there is no problem there.

    Thanks again,

  • Asus M2A-VM HDMI recap

    Hi,
I picked this up cheap due to prior owner having problems with video going nuts after it warmed up. As suspected, it has 6.3v 820uf KZG with all those around the pci-e slot swollen as well as two by the power connection.

I can get the same specs in the following:

    Panasonic FM (8mm x 15mm)
    Sanyo OSCON WX (8mm x 12mm)
    Samxon GC (8mm x 12mm)
    Rubycon MCZ (8mm x 12mm)

I am leaning toward the Sanyo if they will be compatible in this situation. I would welcome thoughts from you on suitability and such .

  • Re: General Possibly dumb question....

Solved it myself. Answer is YES. Older Power Judge testers misread if there is no -5V wire present. I tested with a couple of junk supplies. Green across the board on the Power Judge I was using. I then clipped the wire to simulate the missing pin in newer supplies. Presto...overvoltage warning. Reconnect the wire, everything green again. Same results on second test supply.

  • General Possibly dumb question....

Hey, I have just been testing some power supplies given to me and noticed something odd. I am using an older Power Judge as a basic first check. I am getting overvoltage on reading on all three newer power supplies that are missing the old -5v wire. Is the lack of this line triggering a false reading? The others are older supplies with the -5V line and all test fine. I took an older one with -5V which I knew was bad. I got the expected overvoltage. I dug out and looked at two others I had tested earlier and had given overvoltage warnings, you guessed it, both are minus -5V.
