    MSI Eclipse X58

Another casualty of poor installation, picked it up from teh interwebs.

SMT capacitors knocked off of the back, some are near microscopic.

Tips for measuring and replacing them? There's no way my ESR meter would measure them and the capacitance function on my multimeter only does nF... doesn't seem to give me any useful reading.

Also, apologies for the abysmal pictures, best I can do until there's some natural light.

He he, I've tried this before. It didn't bode well for me. All I ended up with was chapped fingertips.

ASUS X75VD - 50 minute shutdown and abysmal SATA III performance
      by Dan81
Just as the title says, I have an ASUS X75VD-TY237H, MB model X75VD - soldered on i3-2370M + 4GB DDR3 RAM.

The laptop works almost fine except for two issues:

      1. It will shut down at exactly 50 minutes. Not a soft shutdown, but just like somebody pulled the plug on it (battery does hold charge). It just goes off, as if Intel's stupid HPET kicks in. The thing is, I very highly doubt the ME is at fault - if it was ME, it would shut down at exactly 30 minutes after power on - I've had a Samsung NP300E5C do this because its chipset (HM70 for Samsung) would not support...

      Onkyo DX-C390's are Awful
      by JakeShaw
Onkyo's 6-cd disc changers are abysmal to work on. Not only ideologically abysmal to see when I sit down at my bench, but a pain to remove parts out of, and a pain to start troubleshooting.

Has anyone had any luck actually fixing these things or do you just get rid of them? Because that's how I've been treating them unless I'm removing a jammed disc. They're just so primitive and terrible all around. Cheap enough to not order parts for but the parts themselves are so cheap. Feels like a waste of time.

BV/BRD and Schematics for Xperia XZ1 Compact (G8441)
      by ameasere
      Hey all,

Searched far and wide across the various interwebs for any schematics or boardviews for the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact (G8441). A very niche and somewhat uncommon request, but would greatly help for a BGA repair if anyone has one or knows where to find them. Of course, Sony have manuals and a ROM flashing tool... but no board-level information that can help with actually fixing the phone.

Before you ask, no, BGA repair on a device with a 32GB eMMC worth basically nothing is not economical at all, but the data on the phone seems quite important to a customer and...

Microsoft just Giving 11 Away these days?
      by Topcat
I was experimenting with a clean Win11 install on an Asrock J3455-ITX. Install went fine, blank drive, no key entered (it asked for one). Unmodified ISO, just the CPU pre-checks removed.

I do this all the time for experiments with 10....install the OS and run it not activated, but still 100% functions....but get a load of this:

Connected to the interwebs, and it activated....

No idea why.....no key was ever entered. Board is not an OEM (dell, hp, lenovo, etc), so no embedded key; I was asked for a key and just clicked "i don't have...
