    Biostar BT-250 got heated as soon as plugged in

    Hi guys!

    I'm new to this forum and I would like to get any technical advice from my seniors here. And I'm trying to repair Desktop Motherboards and GPUs. Here is one of my problem I'm having here. Biostar TB250-BTC motherboard has no power even power switch don't have 3.3V. As soon as I plugged in 24ATX pin , this regulator got heated. Remove/Replace isn't working there. Any Advice would be appreciate! Sorry for my bad English. Thank you in advanced.

    Have you checked to see if you have a short on this power supply rail that this ic chip is on its output pin

    This is what I would do first

      I've encountered this exact problem with exactly this ic (1117) on a few different boards, this LDO converts 5VSB to 3VSB on all of them. I attached the schematic for this board.

          Hi, most probably you have a short on the chipset. You will find on the chipset top side some small supply voltage filtering caps, measure resistance on them, if you find a very low resistance around 0-1 ohm, then the chipset is dead. Normal resistances are dependent on the chipset power supply line between several 10's of ohms to kohms. Check also the 5V stand-by voltage in stand-by mode, if lower than 5V (+/- 5% tolerance), then most probably the chipset is dead. The volatge regulator gets hot, because it's operating then at maximum amperes/temperature limits, but usually it does not get broken due to the short. The caps have their positive leg usually towards the silicon, the other meter lead just connect to ground. However I have seem also chipsets with shorted caps, this can also happen, and it looks like the silicon is dead. And, the chipset has usually two power voltages, 3,3V and 1V, the 3,3V is on such older boards usually generated from the 5V VSB stand-by by a linear regulator, the one like you desoldered.

            Hey All!

            Long time forum member here with a problematic laptop issue!

            I got a RZ09-0196 with a bloated battery (still worked and charged fine) I pulled the old cell pack out and installed a new cell pack in its place.

            The laptop would not power on with the new battery installed without the power supply being plugged in.

            When booting into Win10 (all up to date BTW) I saw the battery icon with 49% plugged in not charging.

            TL;Dr version, old battery worked, charged but was bloated, installed a new non OEM replacement, laptop/windows...

            Hello fellows,

            I am putting a feeler out for a schematic (or ideally boardview) for the Biostar B660-T Silver motherboard.

            I had let my guard down and decided to trust the Biostar supplied Windows based BIOS flash tool, only to find that the system would not POST upon restart.

            no problem I thought - I would just flash using my trusty CH341 and be on my merry way.

            I have this Asus ROG laptop (the 1060 + 6700HQ variant) which lights up the power button's LED when i plug the charger in but does nothing else. Opening up there are no signs of any burnt or corroded components, i've checked the resistance of both CPU and GPU's cores on the caps underside them, the CPU's VCCCORE's caps read 1.2ohm and the GPU's NVVDD read about 0.5 to 0.6ohm. I then tried to check any voltages while the laptop is plugged in (without any of the removable parts) and the GPU's core voltage instantly goes to 0.8v when plugged then getting slowly warm, the PCH does so too (not so warm...

            Hi all,

            I have an A1706 that was liquid damaged, the logic board turns on and works when the battery connector is not plugged in, but when the battery is plugged in, the computer is stuck on 5v @ 30-40 Mah, and USB-C meter will reboot every 5 sec or so, pressing and holding down the power button will make the USB-C meter to stop boot looping, and if you keep holding it, fan will quickly spin up and turn off.
