Silk screens on motherboards are not always correct.
If the boards ran at all before the recap then the caps were probably in the correct orientation.

The whole board was capped (factory) in the opposite orientation, so I installed the recaps the same way. Pity, having to toss out six new Rubycon, but I won't try to reuse them after pulling them out.

Anyway, the board powers up, but is completely dead otherwise. I have elected not to waste any more of my precious Rubycon stock on this P3 board. It's a tosser.

Once again, thanks for the tip! If you were closer, the beer would be on me. Much obliged for all the good info... reading your methods for recapping made it work well for me right from the start. You can reduce your head size now, and go back to regular scheduling drinking...



I've spent the last two days recapping a ton of boards, and one of the KG7 gave me fits. The cap actually separated, and left on leg and its plate dangling off the board. This was about the last cap on the board to replace, so I figured I screwed the board and lost a bunch of new caps. Didn't happen that way. I did the solder on both sides trick, and was able to get that sticky pin removed.

I had the Hakko up to full bore, something like 475C, to get that leg out of the hole.

Stainless is the only way to fly for hole cleaning. I've been having to use steel dress pins, because I cannot find any stainless in the size I want. The solder sticks to the steel pins, and is generally a pain in the butt.

Just thought I'd add that ASUS boards are always silkscreened backwards.

The board continues to Stay Dead, but at least I did not incorrectly install the caps and convert them to NECs (noise emitting capacitors).
