A simple question about caps on a FX5500 video card.

    Hello guys!

I'm new in this forum, i think this is the right place to ask a small question.

    I have a GeForce FX5500 256MB 128Bit brand OverCard (WTF? Xd).

The thing is that i see many FX5500 video cards from other "unknow" brands like this one with bad capacitors, (but no one of this specific brand).

I bought this card a year ago and used it only for Windows Vista Aero Basic. I'm not a gamer and the machine are in use "only" 8 hours all days.

I take a look at the capacitors, and I through there are Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, but i'm not sure of this. Of course, i'm not sure of what brand the capacitors are.

Here are two photos (sorry for the quality, my Nokia 6131 camera really sucks!):

    Inscriptions are:

    JL
    1000
    6.3V

What brand of caps they are? They look OK but, how long i can trust in this caps? Considering that i'm not a gamer, and the 8 hours/day of use.

I hope someone could bring some light to this.

    Thanks so much!

I dunno who makes those but I don't recall seeing any complaints about them failing either. That might be because they are good caps or it might be they simply aren't very common.

I wouldn't be too worried about them. If you are then just check them frequently.

They are not polymer BTW they are electrolytic. The vent stamp tells you that. Some people think marking lytics like that is some kind of marketing deception. It might be a little bit but marking lytics that way 'is legal' and was the standard way before marking with sleeves became less expensive than direct marking. With new tech sleeves aren't a cheaper method anymore so some companies are reverting back to direct marking as they rotate out their production equipment. [Nichicon in fact had remarks on their site at one point indicating they plan to do that.]

    Side note:
If you come across any with an "FZ" those are fairly common on video cards and are crap.
FZ will blow the tops hard enough sometimes that you can hear it through the case.
FZ are made by Sacon/Evercon which are the the new name[s] for GSC.

I Really thank for your explaination.

I'm now less worried about this "issue".
Hope my video card caps would live a long life.

      Thanks!
