    Intel D850MV

Any idea what is wrong here?
Failed Rubycon MBZ 3300uF 6.3v cap

Board does not power on, nothing happenes when the power pin is shorted...

I have only tried desoldering the failed cap, don't really want the mobo, (I don't have a Intel P4 or RD-RAM...) just curious what went wrong

What is the cap even doing there, On the side is the input caps, 3x Nichicon PW(M) 2200uF 16v, next are the 3x coils and then 4x solid caps (erm, and 3 more on the other side of the CPU socket)

I just don't follow the logic at all in the layout of this thing?

    Re: Intel D850MV

Intel does that on a lot of P4 class boards, mixing Oscons with regular Low ESR electrolytics.. The other MBZ appears to be discolored on its metal top too, or is it just the way the camera took the picture?? I'd almost say that the first VRM output inductor (red one closest to the left) looks overheated, but it may be the shadow from the CPU retention bracket..

As to not powering up, it's probably not in that area of the board..

Yea, it's the camera.... Both the other Rubycon cap and the coil looks just fine in normal light... All other components and the PCB itself looks like it is brand new...

The system failed when running, the CPU in it then did survive and is in use now, and I think the memory too...

I was not so confused about the mixing, just the fact that the numbers do not add upp, generally I've seen some logic too it, i.e. 3 input caps, 3 coils and 6 output caps...

      But yea, whatever :P

yes it looks odd design. but RIMMs turned out to be pretty odd as well

intel does mix caps on vrm out even across the revisions of the boards.

        maybe cap is open
        maybe some fet died
